$25 charge for SIM card Replacement? Is it true or the representative put the money in his pocket?

Hi Community,

I'm switching from iphone4s to iphone6. As you know, the SIM card is different, so I have to replace it.

I went to a AT&T location, and the representative charged me 25 dollar for it. Cash without receipt. He told me its a one-time charge, if I come to replace another SIM card in the future, it's gonna be free.

I'm not the holder of my family plan, if it is a reason for that charge.

That's new to me. They are always free for post paid customers.
Is this a prepaid pay as you go account?

Thank you for replying. I'm currently a member in a family plan, and this
charge is only for the replacement, not for anything else. He told me its
gonna be free if my holder can come in person-which is impossible cause I
just moved from Maryland to California. My holder is still in Maryland.

You're most welcome.

It shouldn't make a difference, you must have had authorization to upgrade. Did you get a receipt? Save it. I think you should get your money back. This seems off to me.

If you don't get input from an employee here, please follow up with a call to customer service, or have the account holder do so.

Chances are that it wasn't a corporate store, but an authorized reseller. Authorized resellers may charge for SIM cards. Corporate stores usually don't.
