Why was a hard Inquiry posted on my credit file?!?

On December 23rd, 2018. I inquired about opening a new phone service with the company,

During the application process, the store representative had asked for my SSN#, I stated that I do not want an Inquiry filed under my name, the
the representative had lied and told me the SSN# is only held on file in cases of theft and for identity verification, this ended up
being a lie and the inquiry posted on my behalf resulted in an inquiry on my credit file.

I have made several attempts in contacting the corporate office which only resulted in being placed on hold for so long the phone disconnected.

I have contacted the credit bureaus and was told that nothing that can be done, I have since filed a police report against the store, what is my next step on resolving the issue?

Anyone that is working on their credit should know what does and doesn’t require a hard inquiry.  New TV, internet or cellular DOES.  It’s your rear end, so it’s up to you to protect it.

He shouldn't have misled you. That said, I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. You voluntarily provided your SSN, so it's not a case of identity theft.

You can file a complaint with the FCC and someone from the Office of the President will contact you. If there's any way to reverse that inquiry, that's who would have to do it.

We had a rep show up at our house on a Sunday.... My husband brought him in being that he told him I am the boss.... Anyway during the entire hour the guy was sitting in my living room he only said it was AT&T not one mention about Direct.... He told us it was fiber optic.....When I ask upfront, " what kind of pull on my credit will be done, because we are working on our credit"... He stated only a SOFT pull....... 30 minutes after he left I got an alert stating there had been a hard pull on my credit from Clearhome..... WHAT THE HECK....  during that time the installation tech showed up and told us we would have to have a pole...... Right then I stopped him, he said he will cancel installation, and my husband called the rep that just left...... He explained to him WHY we were not going thru with the order and wanted out money back, that he said would not come out for 10 days but posted last night...........  and we want the hard pull removed from our credit report.  We also ask for a conf # that the order was cancelled.  He didn't provide either.

Today, after being transferred 4 times and an hour and 20 minutes on the phone, I was able to cancel the service that should have already been canceled...After the 2nd transfer I ask for a supervisor ONLY>>>>I also ask if I could speak to someone that could speak and understand English (not being racist or ugly by any means) My husband and I are interracial......Just wanted someone to understand exactly what I was saying and I wanted to understand them. I never got anyone except the folks I was already speaking with .  I want to file a BBB complaint on the company Clearhome and AT&T for hiring such low down contractors......

I am so frustrated I don't know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I will triple check to make sure I DO NOT have this service and my money goes back into my account..... I want to know if there is anything I can do about the HARD pull??  Thanks so much

@themurphys   read @MicCheck  response on the post above yours, the same pertains to you. third party vendors change employees daily so its hard for anyone to pin down the person doing things like this, its a good thing you cancelled before the install as most people don't find out about it until after the grace period resulting in huge early termination fees as far as the hard pull there seems to be a disconnect as to who is required/responsible and able to authorize a hard inquiry removal. there are debates in these forums saying at&t is suppose to do it the the  and at&t saying the credit reporting agency is suppose to but ive never seen a solved solution stating it was removed. my advice is to follow @MicCheck  advice in the last sentence of his post

Your right... I guess in the midst of it all I really wasn't thinking....
And trusting what is being told to me.... Lesson learned...

Thank you so much for the feedback and help.  I will be contacting them again today to confirm all is cancelled and my money is going back into my account.  I will then work on getting the hard pull removed if at all possible.  Again, thanks.

I have an inquiry showing up on my report from May 2019 yet I have never had an AT&T account or even inquired about services. How do I rectify this?
