What to do if your phone number has been spoofed
Some group is using my phone number to make robocalls all over the area. I've been getting angry calls from people who think I'm doing it. What can I do about this? I tried going through AT&T support, and they told me to use the FCC's complain service to report the numbers. The numbers I'm getting are the caller IDs of the people who are victims of this!
I need some better advice, and there has to be something AT&T can do to stop this.
Thanks.

Sorry, no, there is nothing ATT or any carrier can do to prevent number spoofing. The only good news is the spammers and scammers normally only use a number a short time and likely will move on to another number soon.

I am having the same problem. I have received over 25 calls from people saying that I called them, some of them threatening to call their attorney. I haven't called any of these people.

This is exactly what is happening to me currently. I reported it and am hoping that it blows over. I even had someone call me who said that they were from At&t and was trying to "help" me.

I have just been notified my a very nice lady so far that my number has called her 3x this morning. I am waiting on calls that are not so nice. So, what we are being told is that there is nothing that can be done, and we just have to let it blow over??

It's ridiculous that At&t has no customer service. And all we have is this stupid forum to deal with this, and we are just being told to wait it out. With the tech available they could easily track the hackers and shut them down. But no. I am terrified that someone has hacked my phone and I can't get any help.

No they cant. Spoofers change numbers like we change out sheets. They are almost always outside the USA.
Your phone is not hacked or cloned. It’s annoying, but cannot hurt you if you just don’t answer calls from numbers you don’t know.
And until October 2017 it wasn’t legal for carriers to block any calls.
Call Protect and Hiya are new products and both work well on robo, telemarketing, spam and fraud. But they cannot filter out a valid number that has been spoofed. Keep in mind there is legal spoofing. Number sync which allows calls and text on tablets and smart watches is spoofing.

My phone number has been spoofed and I was told all I could do was change my phone number, which I am NOT doing. The best I am able to do is screen calls and my voicemail greeting is an explanation that I’ve been spoofed and a request for them to block my number. I get at least 1-2 calls a day! And no they don’t change numbers like they change sheets, this has been ongoing for at least 6 months! There should be more protection for consumers, both the victims of the spoofers and the owners of the numbers being spoofed! I’m worried someone’s going to complain to the FCC about me and I’ve done nothing wrong.

My phone number has been spoofed. It started with the scam call from guy with indian accent saying he is with Microsoft and wanting access to my computer, and I wasn't very nice. Within 5 minutes my phone started ringing from people who had gotten calls from my number. I live in Pennsylvania but most of the calls were from Canada. The calls were coming two a minute. They were pretty nasty calls. I rerecorded my voicemail message stating I am no longer taking calls at this number and that my number has been spoofed and any calls from this number should be considered a scam. Calls became very nice. I then unplugged my phone and waited. Calls stopped in 24 hours. Lesson learned is is don't get nasty with these scammers you cant win. I did report to Verizon and FCC but not much anyone can do.

My phone Number has been spoofed and I’ve received over 400 calls in three days ....20 to 30 texts from people who are angry saying to stop calling them and about 200 voicemails.Which clogged up my voicemail over five times and I’ve had to delete all of the voicemails to get it back to zero. I feel that if I change my number THEY WIN and I don’t want that because I’ve had this number for like 20 years.I’m hoping that it stops at some point but really wish that ATT could find out a better system Even if it’s something temporarily that you put on the phone to block all calls automatically and say iMessage not me having to put it in my voice saying that I’ve been spoofed.I put an app on my phone that would send the callers straight to voicemail and that helped a bit but I still had the annoyance of adding text messages saying I’ve been spoofed I didn’t text you and knowing that my name and number out there on the web which really bothered me on instant checkmate so I’ve asked them to remove it because that means over 500 callers know what my name and address is and that’s kind of frightening.
