Used the app to Cancel a line

I used the app today, to cancel a phone line and a tablet.

I clicked on the device and selected Options. Then I clicked on the icon that says 'CANCEL A LINE'.  I filled out the form and submitted it.  There was a pop-up to ask if I really wanted to cancel this device.  I chose Yes, and then another one that asked if I was sure I wanted to cancel it.  I said Yes.

After it processed, another pop-up stated that I successfully deleted a line.

Tonight, I checked my account and the lines still showed as Active. I went to the ATT Forum and found all of the posts with the same question. All of the replies were, 'you have to call ATT'.

My question is, why would the option be available on the app, make us fill out a form request, ask twice if we are sure we want to cancel it, then receiving a verification email stating the line was successfully cancelled, WHEN IT DOESNT EVEN WORK?

I knew years ago that the ATT app was NOT user-friendly. It's a disappointment for a company that sells wireless goods & services.

🤣.  Nice try but those functions do not exist on AT&T's website or application. There is no way to cancel a line on any service provider, without calling the service provider

I don't know what you think you read, it probably mentioned suspending a device  (if a device were lost or stolen)

But there has never been a way to cancel service on a device on AT&T's website or application.

All service providers, all post paid service, requires that you call the service provider in order to cancel service on any line of service.

FYI all service providers charge 'month to month' . This means that if you cancel service by calling the provider, service terminates on any one device at the end of the service month. Service is not terminated in the middle of the bill cycle, because you are charged for that service until the billing cycle ends and they cannot ask you to pay for something they did not provide.

Then I clicked on the icon that says 'CANCEL A LINE'.

I have no idea where you are seeing that. I’ve been all over the app, checked every screen and menu on each device, there is no ‘CANCEL A LINE’ icon. Can you post a screenshot?

Thank you for replying so fast!

This morning, I logged back into the app and see that the instructions I gave in my original post did work for canceling the add-on tablet. Then I went back to remove the phone line. Apparently the app had not yet  removed the add-on. I must have been unknowingly using the option under the add-on - where I thought I was canceling the phone.

Hmmm. Still puzzling.

I've heard others say that you can cancel a watch line in the my AT&T account. But anyone who actually tried has been unable to do so even with directions.

Perhaps this was new functionality that is now actually functional but not for phone lines
