Unlock device after porting number

I ported my number out of AT&T. Even though my number has been completely ported out of the ATT network, they have an arbitrary hold period for 24 hours during which I cannot submit a request to unlock my device. However, more than 24 hours have passed and I am still unable to submit a request to unlock my device. I have called customer service several times, spoken with supervisors but no one knows exactly when I'll be able to submit my request or have any authority to speed up the process or make a request on my offer. A supervisor named Cherrie Sumpter told me yesterday that she would follow up with me today but hasn't done so. She also assured me yesterday that once 24 hours have passed I will be able to submit a request. I do not have a device to use with the new carrier and no one at AT&T cares to help.

The website says that I have to wait 24 hours after paying the ETF to submit a request. There is no bill on my account yet that I can pay. When I call customer service they say I can't pay anything now and paying is not required to unlock my phone. I can just submit a request to unlock 24 hours after porting.

Nothing customer service has said so far has proven accurate. Meanwhile, tomorrow is day 2 that I have no phone. It is difficult to explain at work why I don't have a phone as it's very much required for my job.

If you have an ETF or Next balance you will have to pay it, and wait for the payment to process to unlock the phone.

If you did not have ETF or Next balance you can unlock now as a non customer.

If you are having problems will the request, send a private message to @ATTMobilityCare

If you leave ATT, you have to pay everything, including the final bill.  The final bill isn't sent until your usual bill date.  Once it's all paid, your phone can be unlocked.

It's a bit late now...

We recommend a 2 step option if you want to use your phone.  Port your number to Cricket.  Cricket is an ATT subsidiary and your locked phone will work.  But it generates a final bill and ETF, once paid, you can unlock as a NON customer and then port to another carrier if you want.
