Unlock Device After Payment of ETF

Hello -

I just paid my ETF and my account now shows zero balance (payment reflected). Is there anything else I need to do or how long to wait before I can unlock my device? I just tried unlocking and still saying I’m still under contract.

Thank you!

Again, it's not an ETF. You're paying off the rest of your phone payments.

Once you cancel service, your final bill has to be "printed," "paid" (even if it's a $0 balance), and then clear another billing cycle before the account is finalized at a zero balance. Hindsight is 20/20, but you should always pay off and unlock phones before leaving a carrier.

Your new bill should be issued about 4 to 5 days into the next bill cycle. If everything has a zero balance, you should be able to request the unlock then

The only way to pay an early termination fee is to cancel service. Are you sure you don't mean you paid off your installments which is not a contract. If you have paid off your installments, the recommendation from AT&T is that you wait 48 hours

Are you still an AT&T customer? If so, it should take between 2 and 14 days from the unlock to be allowed. If not, it takes about 2 months for everything to cycle through and actually show a zero balance.

I just canceled my service, which triggered the ETF. I guess will have to wait up to two months then.

Does it mean that even though it shows zero balance (reflecting my ETF payment). It is not yet really zero balance until it goes thru the next billing cycle (I cancelled 2 days before end of my previous billing cycle)? Thanks!
