Unable to transfer billing responsibility because of email?

My soon to be ex is trying to transfer billing responsibility to me for my current line. He cannot get past the page of where he inputs the email, he's tried 2 different emails neither of which will allow him to proceed forward. Is there something he is doing incorrectly or do I need to open an account with AT&T before he tries?

I have no idea why it won’t accept your email but no, you do need to create an account with ATT first. What email service do you use, perhaps that’s the issue?
