Type of Credit Check

I am wanting to leave Verizon and transfer my 4 lines to AT&T. The issue is that I am also in the last stages of buying a home and cannot have any new hard credit inquiries until that process completes.

Can anyone tell me if AT&T runs a hard or soft inquiry for credit checks on new accounts?

Hey, ! We're here to share which type of credit check is used for new wireless service!

Effective immediately, the credit check when opening home phone service (for example, AT&T Phone & Wireline), wireless phone contracts, Internet, and/or TV services (for example, DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM (formerly AT&T TV), and U-verse TV) will be a soft credit check instead of a hard credit check.

When a credit check is required - hard or soft - a credit check disclosure is provided and the customers consent is requested before checking credit. Device payments will be based on credit review and device cost.

Don't.   And your realtor would tell you don't change anything. It doesn't matter whether it's a hard or a soft check it will still affect your credit history.

No new debt!

This is the kind of stuff that makes Realtors shake their head in frustration, because you should never add any sort of new debt right before closing on a house

Side story:  Many years ago, when my oldest was in the process of purchasing a home, she wanted to go ahead and pick out new furniture (no interest for 12 months).  She asked that we apply for the CC at the furniture store.  Of course we did and she paid off the balance as required.

She's in the mortgage business and knew that any kind of credit application and subsequent credit pull could affect the interest rate.

Yeah,  switched to Verizon with all byod,  and soft pull hit my report.   Temporary,  but did drop my score for a year.

The credit game is a delicate balance

Credit karma is actually helpful understanding the how and when reporting occurs.

@user718 how did your closing go? Was it affected by your AT&T soft credit inquiry? I'm in the same spot now, and holding off at this point until after closing, just to be safe.
