Robo call (allegedly from ATT) re: account suspended pending verification

I've received robo calls on my mobile telling me my account has been suspended pending verification.  Probably a scam.  I called ATT and did not get much satisfaction. Another hint that it's a scam.  Be careful.

What are robocalls?

Definitely a scam. ATT does not make calls like that.

I just received the robo call saying my AT&T account had been suspended and I needed to verify it. I knew immediately this was a scam and decided to play along.

They asked for my last 4 digits of my social security number. I put in 1234. Then it asked for my AT&T password. I put in 1234567890. Then it said reinstating account. LOL

Please do not fall for this and give out your information. AT&T would never make that type of call.

Just had this happen.  It was at 9:47pm 2 days ago.  They called twice from this number!  +18007584182

I knew it was a scam of course seeing how they called on my suspended account and AT&T wouldn't send an automated call, especially that late!

I just got 2 of these "a count suspended" calls in the past 30 minutes. The recording asked for my Att passcode. What? Hung up. 7-28-18

I also got this Robo call this evening and was scrambling to find out what was going on. Of course AT&T support was already closed for the day - even though they used to be available 24x7, so I couldn't ask them if this was a legit call.  I thought it was because my bill was one day late, but this didn't make sense.  NOTE:  I also had "Do Not Disturb" turned on on my iPhone X so that it only allows calls from someone in my contacts list - the most restrictive there is, but somehow the 800-334-0500 call got through. This whole episode has been one big pain the the butt. Fortunately, I found this posting and see I'm not the only one dealing with this.  AT&T - get your act together and return us to the day of 24x7 support via 611!

I got the exact call today.  The call read as if it were from me.  My name.  Number was spoofed to be local ‭(520) 221-1692‬.  I hung up when  automated voice asked for passcode.

@kbender629, change your PIN immediately!

You might also put a freeze on your credit reports. With the last four of your SSN, someone might be able to open other accounts.

i received a call from AT&T (allegedly) that said my account had been suspended pending verification.

I know that this was reported already, but I thought you should know that I’m still receiving these calls. My phone rang four times this afternoon. I’m not sure how it works, but the first two calls came from places I know: my bank and another business. I answered the phone and they hung up. I then got two calls about five minutes apart about my AT&T Account. So they’re still calling about my account. I hung up each time. But other people aren’t, ie: the elderly, the poor, and others without access to a lot of technology, who are not computer literate, live in a small town, were living in a time when the phone wasn’t used to commit fraud and steal.

Can we not put a lid on robo calls? I’ve enrolled in the Do Not Call Registry, the no robo call list, I block all known numbers used by these annoying people, to no avail.

What can I do that I’m not doing?

im so sick of phishing, robo calls, telemarking calls!!  It drives my mad!

It is a giant crime wave, and nobody seems to care. To get Biblical,
"The want of money is the root of all evil" It won't solve anything, but
reminds me of something I did years ago. When they call, "IF" you get a
real person on the other end, talk real quietly and slow, as if you may
be of age, and keep saying I can hardly hear you. Hoping they have
turned their headphones all the way up, to hear you, then with one of
those boat horns that run off of a freon can, blast it into your phone,
or a police whistle, and hope it makes blood run out their ears! Just a
thought. I too have one in particular that calls EVERY day, even though
I have them on my blocked list, they still keep trying.

I received a call from this same number and also text messages.    This person was really adamant that they wanted to hack into my account.  I called the legitimate AT&T phone number and they informed me that an unknown person (unable to pronounce the name) had changed my billing address and added an authorized user to my account.  I was able to get it all reversed before they made any purchases.  Once I cleared it all up with AT&T I changed all my passwords and user id.  Shortly thereafter (approx 1 hour) I received another phone call from phone # 866-241-6565 who stated that someone was trying to add 2 lines to my account and did I authorize a person named John Anderson.   I told him no, but I was a bit suspicious because I had already cleared this up.  He proceeded to tell me that he was going to give me a $20 credit for the inconvenience.  He mentioned to me that he was going to send me a temporary passcode and for me to verify the 6 numbers.

That is when I asked him when did this alleged fraud activity occur.  He said 2 hours ago.   I asked what email address do you have on file.  He gave me the old one so I knew at this point that this person was not legitimate because that was no longer the correct email address  and he would have seen the changes.  I said what is your name and employee id # which he gave me Troy ID # 05811.    Fortunately I did not give him any information and recontacted the real AT&T who told me that they will never give out employee ID #'s because they don't want people to use them for fraud.  She looked up the id number that he provided and confirmed it was not a legitimate name or number.  People please be aware!!!!  This person "Troy" who called sound very convincing, he spoke perfect english and did not have an accent.  He knew exactly what he was doing, was very apologetic but the reality is he was a fraud!!!!  Don't ever give out your personal information unless you make the call and know who you are speaking with.

Thanks for listening.
