Phone activation

My parents had an old at&t account with rollover minutes but was still the active account they use. My friend works as a door to door solutions provider and upgraded their account to unlimited text, talk and data and added a watch for my dad. My question is: my mom has a brand new i8+ on the previous account, she wants to use that phone and keep the same number how would she do this?

Ps My friend upgraded my dads phone from s5 to s9+ add a Samsung watch and put an iPhone SE under my moms phone number. He said she could take the SIM card out from the new account and insert that into her i8+ and still keep that phone. That way she gets on the new unlimited plan and gets to use her phone that’s paid off. Is this true? Will this work? If so how do they do this?

Hello @Pdparks22.

Thanks for the post.

We hope your Dad is enjoying a World Without Limits, with his new Samsung Galaxy device upgrades.

We can help with your Moms Apple iPhone question. Both Apple iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone SE utilize Nano SIMs so the swap should be easy. Locate the SIM tray on the right side of your devices and pop the SIM tray open with a paper clip or SIM Tray tool. Be very careful as the SIMs are fragile.

Switch out the SIMS for your mom, then visit Sign in and update her account with your new SIM card and IMEI numbers.

Finally - test her HD Voice (place a call) & Mobile Data (open Safari) to ensure shes connected. Please post when you have completed the steps with an update.

Yes, she can move the sim card from the SE to the iPhone 8 and continue to use the 8. However, there is no “old account”. Your parents still have the same account, they just have a new plan. It also sounds like they got a new phone (the iPhone SE) they did not ask for. I think your friend took advantage of them.
