Opt Out of CPNI

Why are customers unable to opt out of CPNI from ATT website? https://www.att.com/ecpnioptout/InitiateCPNIForm.action

It keeps throwing the error message 'ECPNI0110: We're unable to find your account. Please call a representative at 1.800.288.2020'

It really gives a feel that ATT intentionally makes it harder to opt out

Must be a glitch in the system because I didn't have any issues opting out of CPNI. But yeah, AT&T doesn't make it easy. It took me awhile to find the opt-out option.

You should be able to do it online, but really it's not worth the time it takes, even if everything goes perfectly. CPNI isn't sensitive information and only relates to marketing based on your account details.

@MicCheck Is there an option to say no to ATT to stop gathering sensitive data?

No. CPNI stands for Customer Proprietary Network Information. That is information pertaining to your account, all of which is required for you to even have an account. I’m not sure what you think opting out of CPNI will get you but it doesn’t stop ATT from gathering that necessary information. It only stops them from sharing that information with other ATT businesses.

@sandblaster Thanks for the details. Its true ATT gathers the details anyway but as long as they ensure they dont sell or share it with ATT affiliates or 3rd party vendors its good to some extent

ATT affiliates

True. They won't share you cell phone CPNI with Uverse for the purpose of selling you Uverse services, for example.

3rd party vendors

False. That is not what the CPNI opt out says. Perhaps it could be interpreted to say it won't be shared with vendors for the purposes of selling you different AT&T services, but not just general sharing.
