Name used to register new number
I received a phone call this morning, the caller claimed to be AT&T employee and gave me his information (Mark, employee ID: 915646)
They claimed that a new number 626 757 9359 was registered under my name on Mar 1, 2023, and it was then used to send scams.
What was concerning is that they knew my name beforehand. I tried to call 877.844.5584 but it's only meaningless recordings and the website they provided was wrong. Can someone confirm the identity of the caller and the status of that number?

The call was a scam. ATT does not make calls like that. As a former employee myself, I can tell you that is not an employee id.

I had the same call. Caller is from +1(800)920-5642. They knew my last name at least. Thanks to this post I realize they are scam very quickly and hanged up. I just filed a FTC ticket on this number.
I think they said my name is used to register new number 6267579351.
@AT&T please block all the numbers they are likely used for more scams.

Since numbers can be spoofed, that would literally require AT&T to block all numbers

I have the same exact experience over this past weekend. The caller was from 1-800-343-XXXX. They called me about 4 to 5 times and the last four digits of the phone numbers kept changing but they all started with 1-800-343. The callers threaten to report me to FCC for fraud.
Does anyone know what they are trying to get from me? Asking me to pay $$ to get out the FCC claim?

At the end of this scam call, I asked once again for the number they claimed that I registered... And that's exactly 6267579351, which I googled and found out in this post. So angry that I wasted over 10 minutes of my life on this.

Well if you didn't give them additional information, finances, or anything then the 10 minutes being cautious wasn't wasted. If number is not recongnized, don't answer. If you chose to answer, thank them for info, hang up, and call the company on a verified customer support number. Do NOT redial using Caller ID in case it redirects to spoofed number.
While back someone mentioned falling for one of these scams, gave their account info to "verify" and afterwards determined it was a scam. They immediately moved all their life savings resulting in the crook only getting about $20 out of what was left (amount to keep account open I guess if it turned out it wasn't a scam). That was rather lucky. Being cautious from the start is a good use of time in my opinion.

I also received a similar scam from 800 481 9404.
Interestingly, they didn't ask me to do anything.
Maybe because I was laughing during the call and they gave up?
