My phone number is being used by another person

I have been getting text messages on my phone that are not targeted for me.

I searched the internet for my phone number and found that another person has the same phone number as me.

The search said that New Cingular Wireless Pcs LLC was the carrier.

How do I stop this?

It is far more likely that either somebody has been using your number, to avoid calls that he does not want to hear from. Or that your number once belonged to that other person.
I have had my second number for almost seven years and I am still getting calls and text for a person I now refer to as 'deadbeat Connie'.

I have had my number for over 20 years. My recent internet search for my number came up with BOTH of us having the same number. If the other person was using that number for their convenience only or something otherwise nefarious it would not be listed under their name on-line.

There must be another reason.

I am listed with Verizon, They are listed with New Cingular Wireless (aka AT&T).

I think it is an error by AT&T, but I can't contact them directly because I am always on hold for two hours and have to give up every time.

Unfortunately, this forum is the only way I can get any sort of answer. AT&T's customer service is useless.

It's not possible for 2 sim cards to have the same number. Not on any carrier.

Then how can you explain why I'm getting calls for another person that is listed (according to a Google search) to have the same number as mine?

Have your sim card replaced.
The iccid number should be connected with one sim card and one phone number.

The same as the OP, it's most likely someone either had your number previously or is providing your phone number, either in error or to avoid calls and texts. In that case there's nothing you can do.

We want to help you avoid unwanted texts/calls radamskaplan, jlippencott!

Like our ACE stated, it's not possible for two people to share the same phone number.

Defend yourself against texting scams

Be cautious of text messages asking for your personal, account, or credit card info. Don’t click on any text message asking for your personal info or your credit card details.

Report SMiShing right away! Here’s how:
  • Forward the suspicious text to us at 7726. Messages forwarded to 7726 are free. They don't count toward your text plan. If you can’t see the number, forward the entire message to abuse@att.net.
  • Report spam and fraud text to us. Help us block spam, robocalls, and unwanted text messages by completing & submitting the form.
  • Send a suspicious text message/unwanted calls to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org, or report it to the FTC. You can also
  • Go to IdentityTheft.gov to learn more about this kind of criminal activity and how to stop it.
  • Download our AT&T ActiveArmor mobile security app which provides an extra layer of protection that helps you easily secure your data, block spam calls, manage nuisance calls and more.
  • To help limit telemarketing calls from legitimate telemarketers, add your number to the National Do Not Call list.

If you receive an unwanted phone call of any kind, including an unwanted robocall, don’t try to outsmart the bad guy by intentionally giving out wrong information. Just hang up.

Do not call the number back, or call another number they give you, or press any numbers (or links in texts) that you may be instructed to press.

We hope this helps, we are here if you have additional questions! Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!
