IPhone Trade-In Bait & Switch

When I traded in my iPhone 11 in October 2021, I was given a $1,000 credit for the phone. I purchased an iPhone 13ProMax. I was told I’d be put on an installment plan, pay $30/month and be credited $27/month for 36 months. After 18 months I want to upgrade to an iPhone 14ProMax. I was told I would need to pay off the balance, quoted at $550. I owed approx $100 after the trade in. I now owe $54.
I argued for 1/2 hour with “Parker,” on a Chat. I finally asked for his supervisor. He told me it would be 2-3 minute wait. I waited 30 minutes and he and the supervisor never came back.
When I got this “deal” I was not told I had to keep the phone for 36 months. I was not told I couldn’t pay off the balance without paying 10x what I owe. I was told I was getting $1,000 for my trade-in. How is this legal? Why would they risk my business (4 family members) and treat a very long-time customer like this?

If you want to trade before your installments are paid off, you will lose remaining credits and owe whatever hadn't been paid of f by you and the credits. To receive all the credits due, you needed to keep that phone for the full 36 months.

There is no bait and switch and it’s definitely legal. The only way to get your $1000 in trade in credits is by completing the 36 month installment plan. That is how the promotion works whether you were told that or not but had you read the promotional requirements, it’s clearly stated. The promotional requirements were available online for you to read. Since you can’t have two installment plans on one line, you either pay off the existing installment plan to upgrade early, which terminates the credits, or you buy the new phone outright and not on an installment plan.
