iPhone is paid off but account was closed years ago

AT&T cannot unlock my paid off phone because they cannot find my wireless account which was closed in 2019.

I do have the imei number , passcode and previous account number too.

I don’t know how my old AT&T account is not in AT&T database. That sounds weird.

Store people asked me to get it done online and online guys can’t find my old account - did I do anything wrong being your customer , AT&T ?

Any help is appreciated here.

You don’t need account information to unlock if the account is closed. You need to answer “no” to the “do you have an ATT number” question. All you need is the imei.

@sandblaster Yes, I answered it no and put imei - my request gets denied saying missing information every time.

The most likely reason then is the imei of the phone you are trying to unlock is no longer in ATT’s database. If that’s the case, you need advanced tech support to research the imei. The easiest way to make that happen is to file an FCC complaint.

The FCC has a website. A google search will find it.

Hi Marilyn ,

The case you helped me opened is rejected as well saying submit an online request on the website which already rejected my request as I mentioned in this post yesterday.

I am going to file FCC complaint for this as @sandblaster  mentioned.

...... or a BBB complaint, which is usually a bit quicker because there is less paperwork for AT&T to go thru. Either one goes to the same place in AT&T which will generate a response from someone in the Office of the President.
