I'm considering switching from wireless to prepaid. Can I keep my number?

Prepaid is wireless too. What you really mean is postpaid to prepaid. Consider switching to Cricket. Cricket is essentially the same as ATT prepaid but you can port your number to Cricket, you don’t have to go to a corporate store. Be aware that you are not eligible for the 12 month plan, that is only for new numbers and moving your number from postpaid is not considered a new number.

Yes but you have to go into a corporate store 

In order to migrate to prepaid you have to do so at a corporate AT&T store. Authorized retailers can do it but most will not.
