You also DO NOT have to make 2 payments, so I'm not sure why people still say that, even an AT&T rep said that. I just used the AT&T mobile app, used the instructions above, and paid off my 1 week old iPhone 6 which I had never made any payments on.
You can do it online only after you've already paid at least two monthly installments. Log into My At&t and go to upgrade eligibility. In there it should have a category that says upgrade options. Go into it and it give your the option to pay it off.
Thanks, I've heard poeple say you need to make 2 payments, but the agreement that AT&T sent me says:
PREPAYMENT. You may pay the total amount due under this Agreement at any time before the final scheduled payment is due. If you make a partial prepayment in order to become upgrade eligible, there will be no changes in the due dates or amount of your scheduled payment.
I went to my account and checked the upgrade eligibility, and it says I can payoff the phone and lists the payoff amount. But I don't see where to actually do it. Hence, my original question.
If it's not giving you the option to do it, then you may not be able to pay it off yet. My husband is under the AT&T Next and it gives him the option to pay off the full amount without any trouble. Or maybe you should call and see what the issue is.
Have you tried looking at your bill online and where it says equipment charges, there should be a link you can click. It should take you to a page where it will give you the option to pay it off. I haven't even made my first payment yet and it gives me the option.

@rdbowen No, extra payments are not possible. The only option is to pay the balance owed.
