Galaxy Trade-In Offer (To warn others, it is a scam)

Back in May 2022 saw the promotion to trade any phone, and upgrade to the Galaxy22 which my husband was in need of a newer model. Inquired and received an email from AT&T that we were eligible for the upgrade WITH NO CHANGE IN PLAN, we confirmed this multiple times. We are senior citizens and are very cautious as to what we do, how much we spend and what we spend it on. Everything went smooth, AT&T brought the phone to our home, and said, oh....you have a tablet that is old, you can trade that in on your existing plan and be receive a credit for your table at well. He told us we could keep our old plan and upgrade the tablet and get the rebate that was offered at that time in the amount of $699.00 which was the cost of the pad. Now we are in the hole for the phone ($999 and tablet $699). So we traded the tablet per the rep's recommendation...fast forward it is October 2022 and no refund to our bill for the amounts promised. We followed the directions from AT&T and packaged the phone and sent to AT&T, as well as the tablet, as we were instructed to do, and know that they were received. Contacted AT&T and spent over 2 hours yesterday using my minutes on (10/3/2022) with 3 different reps on the phone with AT&T. Explained the situation and that we had not been credited for our phone and tablet which we traded in expecting to be compensated as promised. At first the rep (Samuel) said he would give us a monthly credit equal to $799.98 broken down over the next 3 years for the Galaxy S22 (if we should live that long). When we asked about the tablet, he put us on hold and came back and said, never mind any credit for anything,, his manager said we had the wrong plan, although we have emails from AT&T stating and statements from the Enjoy Rep that delivered the phone, that no plan change was required. Now, I told him I had the rep from Enjoy who left his number and said we would get credit for tablet. Well, Samuel the Rep said that AT&T tells lies to make sales, and you were the victim of a scam by the Enjoy rep. Can you imagine a company telling a customer that?  Now we are stuck paying for a phone and tablet that was to be a trade in for a credit. And we asked for our paid in full property be be returned and Samuel the AT&T Rep. said they would not return our Tablet and Phone to us as that is their policy, they belong to us, as we have been issued no credit. We are considered filing a theft report with local authorities for the return of our phone and table that AT&T has stolen. I have asked my company to be replace our current contracts with AT&T with a new company for cell service, as this is fraud, deceptive trade practices, and elder abuse. I am writing this to warn others not to trade in anything to AT&T, they are a deceptive, fraudulent company that lies to makes sales, according to their Rep on 10/3/2022. The only way AT&T would consider a credit for our phone and tablet yesterday, was to raise our plan up to over $165.00 a month, which is not in the budget as that would be an increase of $876.00 per year in plan costs. Then over a 3 year period this would equal to $2,628.00 which is more than the phone and tablet cost. Now, isn't this pulling the wool over the consumer's eyes and a scam.  This is not a way to do business with people, we are angry, we are mad, and we feel cheated and taken advantage of. We have all the emails, the business contact information for the Enjoy Rep, but as Samuel yesterday....AT&T don't care., they lie to make sales. Shame on AT&T, not a way to treat a long time customer, no matter what the age may be of the customer.

you obviously didnt read the details of the trade in deal, you must be on a qualified unlimited plan to qualify for the credits, Enjoy is a 3rd party reseller not at&t once you turn in your trade ins they go to a 3rd party recycler, at&t never sees your trade ins

We did read the fine print and contacted AT&T in a chat that is saved that no change in plan was required to qualify. We are not that ignorant and take offense to you implying such.Evidently you scam customers out of plans and devices which is fraud.

This isn't the experience we ever wanted you to have, @sierra22tx. We're here to help you with this.

We'd like more context about the situation, in order to help make this right. Please share the following information with, so we can look into this.

  • What is your current wireless plan? We want to doublecheck your promotional eligibility over on this side. Also, if you have prepaid service, then you'd be ineligible for this trade-in promotion.
  • What was the make and model of the phone and tablet that was traded-in? This will help us check their trade-in value, along with the max amount of credits you would've gotten for each device.
  • What promotion did you trade-in your tablet for? We'll be able to check your eligibility for it once we know the specific promotion.

Please let us know, so we can continue looking into this.
