Both Android and iPhone are equipped with find my phone apps. If you have set these apps up prior to losing the phone you can search the phone using the account that was set up on the phone. IPhone of course with the iCloud iTunes account. Android can be located with the Gmail account.
The phone has to be on in order to be located
