False Account

An account under my name has been opened by someone who is not me and I was wondering if I can cancel this account. The At&t account was opened from Texas and i live in Michigan.

Hello @Robbyhart,

We can definitely assist you with reporting this unauthorized AT&T account.

If your identity was used to establish AT&T service without your knowledge, please call our Global Fraud Management Organization at one of these numbers:

  • Wireless accounts: (Phone number masked)
  • Home Phone, Internet, or U-verse TV accounts: (Phone number masked)

You can also contact any of the three major credit bureaus to place a fraud alert on your credit file. The fraud alert asks creditors to contact you before opening new accounts or making changes to your existing accounts.

  • Equifax: (Phone number masked), www.equifax.com
  • Experian: (Phone number masked), www.experian.com
  • TransUnion: (Phone number masked), www.transunion.com

Hope this helps!

Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure how ATT works but I had the same thing happen when someone opened up a sprint account in my name unauthorized.

I ended up having to file a police report and then contacted all the credit bureuas to get it off my credit history.

After that I froze my credit for free at all 3 agencies so nobody can open up anything in my name.

I hope customer service will handle this problem a lot better than they normally do routine problems! Sorry for your problem and good luck! I would love to hear how well AT&T solves this problem!
