Dad passed away and phone is in his name. What to do?

My dad passed away a few days ago and the phone is in his name. The phone is fully paid off and we are just on a monthly data plan now. The bill is paid for the next 15 days and we won't have the death certificate for awhile. Is there anyway to get the phone transferred into my name? Or if we can't do anything until the certificate will at&t take my phone away?

As long as payments are made the account will not be cancelled or suspended 

Not a long term solution, but allows some time without adding more stress to your situation.

If the phone is paid off request an unlock if you’re not going to use it on AT&T. If using on AT&T then you can use it. AT&T doesn’t reposse phones

I agree that this isn't something you need to worry about right away. Just keep making payments. 

When you're ready to switch the account into your name, there are two ways:

1. If you know the login information to AT&T account and email account, you can play both roles at att.com/tobr

2. If you don't have that information, take the death certificate to a corporate-owned AT&T store. They can help you.
