Can't change my new cell phone number even though web site says I can
I just got a new cellphone SIM for my young daughter. The phone number is hard to remember, so I want to change it to something easier. The following AT&T support page provides instructions: Change your wireless number.
The instructions on the support page says:
"Ways to get a new number
- Within 30 days of activation for free: Head to your local AT&T store or call us at 800.331.0500.
- After 30 days for a $36 change fee: Request the change online, at an AT&T store, or by contacting us."
However, when I call into 800-331-0500, the representative says they can't do a number change within 30 days of activation, only 30 days AFTER, and for $36. So, the representative is telling me the exact opposite of "Within 30 days of activation for free: Head to your local AT&T store or call us at 800.331.0500."
How do I resolve this?
