Can I unlock my iPhone 5s even after 2-3 years since switching over?

Hi,

I have an iPhone 5s that I haven't used in over 2-3 years. I switched over to another iPhone because I had battery issues with the 5s. However, I retained the same AT&T account with my new iPhone even after switching. I still have my 5s, which is locked to AT&T but not associated any new AT&T account. Can I still unlock this?

you can try but it may have fallen out of the database

I don't see any fine print though that your phone has to be a certain number of years old only.

@sirguppington  AT&T is shutting down their 3g network and part of the process is removing old stale in used imei from their ever growing database

There is no reason you can’t, it’s eligible.  But as @Constructive  said, At&t doesn’t keep IMEi in the data base. You will get a denial back from the automated system, “IMEi is not an At&t device” or “requires 60 days to unlock”.  Neither is correct, but request anyway as a non customer:

When it fails, call At&t and ask for tech support

Is it accurate for me to try and do it as a non-customer when in fact I still have the same number even after switching over from the iPhone 5s that I want to unlock?

If you try to use your current number for your unlock, it will say that the IMEI doesn't match your account because you have a different phone now on your account. The phone you want to unlock is not currently connected to any account so the unlock must be done as a non-customer.
