Can I Unlock a New Phone Right After Purchasing it via the Upgrade Program?
I have been with AT&T for months and recently plan to buy a new iPhone from AT&T via the upgrade program. On this page https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ it is said that "The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request."
It says "the number" instead of "the device". Does it means that I can unlock my new iPhone right away since my number has been there for months?

If the phone is paid off, yes.
Phone's purchased with an installment agreement may not be unlocked until the installment agreement is complete. You should also be aware if you're buying a phone with one of the deals, you may not be able to unlock the phone until the deal is complete which will be in 36 months

If you want the phone to be unlocked right away, it might make more sense to buy an unlocked phone directly from Apple.
