If you have been receiving a fishy text from a number you do not recognize stating your device may be locked soon, have a free gift or asking you to check your bill with a link shortener, we highly recommend not opening it.

Here are a few examples of ones you might be receiving, that you should definitely NOT open:

  • AT&T Free Msg: We will Lock Your Device Soon. Please clear spam messages. Scan now
  • (Your Name), we accidentally overcharged your phone bill the past 4 months. Please accept our apology and this iPhone 11 as a compensation
  • AT&T Free Msg: bill processed, thanks (my name). Here's a little gift for you
  • AT&T Free Msg: (Insert Name)! You came in 2nd in the Connecticut AT&T SWEEPSTAKES! Claim your bounty here
  • Dear Loyal AT&T Customer, please take this 2 minute survey and claim $100

What you can do:

  • Report the message to us:
    1. Forward the message to 7726 (SPAM).
    2. Then submit the number once you are prompted.

 Thanks,

The AT&T Community Team

Good morning @Sheridan8.

Thank you so much for reaching out to us for clarification regarding this message and the “sweepstakes”.  Allow me to shed some light on this.

I’d like to apologize for the delay, I spent a good part of yesterday looking into this as I’ve never heard anything myself about it.  From what I’m seeing, you are correct to be hesitant.  I am not seeing this is an active promotion.

I would not respond to this personally, and highly suggest you do not.  Thank you for bringing this to our attention.  You can look here for information on the latest Frauds and Scams.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach back out to us.

I got an email from AT&T 3 days ago asking for me to fill out a survey and be entered in to a drawing to win 1 of 8 gift cards. I went through the preliminary "screening" and because I'm a Federal employee, I apparently didn't qualify. Today I got a spam email from "CCvvss Phaarmacybpf" (yep, that's how it was spelled), which would suggest that my info was sold to someone. The only thing I've done within the last month that would lead anywhere would be this customer research, with the third party being Kantar.

I've taken screenshots of the initial AT&T email, if anyone from the company would like to contact me. But I definitely don't appreciate my info being sold to other companies.
Strange and interesting.

its still a scam 2 years later

-------------------INCLUDED IN EACH POST FOR CLARIFICATION______
While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses and do so on our own time unpaid and off the clock. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.

AT&T had nothing to do with your information being sold. You fell for a scammer who was impersonating AT&T. I mean seriously, if you got a text message offering you a $20 gift card if you jump off a bridge, would you do that too?

You also have no evidence whatsoever that there is a connection between a previous scam and current scam. There are all kinds of data breaches and other scamming techniques. There is no way to know how they got your info.

It's a scam.  They also tell you if you complete one they'll send you an amazon gift card, but While I know many people who have gotten that particular text (I got an email) I know of no one who has actually gotten a prize or gift card.  They are just trying to get your personal info.

This is the first time I've used a pre-paid service and think it's great.

With funds in the bank, ample, to cover my at&t billing, my service was disconnected on July 11,2020. This has caused a LOT of anguish and, it caused me to have to purchase another phone from your competitor. MORE EXPENSE caused by the at&t system ineptness.

With this "service", I should be HAPPY. You got to be kidding me.

The amazing thing about it is the amount of work the sender did to create a long page of rules at (att com / official rules) when it first appeared  However AT&T proved it was nothing to do with AT&T. For example at Target com it went to a different url then quickly to something like (Target com / survey)

I’ve also been receiving this notice almost daily about a quick survey from AT&T for being a long time customer and the reward is a brand new $1500 cell phone. The survey takes less than a minute and for my quick response the reward is great.

First of I must admit I fell for part of it the first day weeks ago and went thru the quick survey until it then sent me thru multiple unrecognized links to a place where they were asking for more info and bank info so that they could mail the prize which immediately set off alarms abd I quickly closed out that link. However my nervousness about what information they were able to extract from my phone still exists. Thank goodness NORTON UTILITIES put up a banner immediately WARNING ME OF UNSAFE SITE. I am thankful for that and closed out the window. However my concerns are still present.

!!!THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE VERSIONS OF SCAMS Linking AT&T to their illegal activities.  !!!!

AT&T lost my user name and password with no way to get in. For example using lost user name and password sent me to my email writing its too hard because everyone has a different user name and password then wrote start by grouping everyone in a single account then sent me to another page where it needs user and password For example unplug your keyboard and turn your computer on you get keyboard disconnected press enter to exit

I had been having a lot of problems with Comcast internet... we were beginning to lose our home internet on a regular basis. And because internet is something I must have when I decide to make a change after 5 years with Xfinity I tried AT&T against my better judgment as I've had problems with AT&T in the past. When technician came out to put in the service a rep/sales person/con artist came out with him. And low and behold I made the mistake of letting her talk me into leaving my phone provider (T-mobile) who I've had a few issues with, for AT&T phone service. That was right up there with one of the worst mistake I ever made. First my wife and I lost all of our data (a lot of very important information) then the very second day with the new phones and service we begin receiving data warnings saying that we'd use all of our data for the month (THE SECOND DAY!!) and then I begin receiving messages that it was going to cost extra for video calls and last, the rep set up a meeting with my wife and I and left us hanging. Now she said that she was with another customer and that might well have been true, but we waited for two hours and got no courtesy call or nothing. She only finally called when I text her my disappointment. It's been a terrible experience and I haven't even been with AT&T for a week yet and I'm stuck with them until I pay for these dang phones!!!
