Att Scam!

Att had a buy one get one free promotion at there store july 2017 I took advantage of the promotion by adding my fiancee to my account as a new line...we went to the store and the store associate stated we can get the promotion but we needed DirecTV but if I knew someone with the service I just needed there address that's all... I said okay my mother in law has the service we then proceeded with the new address on our account... we pick out our phones and proceed with the transaction while in the middle of the transaction the associate states to my finance would you like to port a number to the account.. I said can u do that she has cricket..my finance says i can get a new number it is fine..he says you can port a cricket number it will work even better because it is cricket... I said okay as long as it not going to be any extra charges or mess anything up...(I ALWAYS SAY THIS!!!!!) Now over a year later I'm still being charged for this supposedly free phone. I am now at the point att has lied to me sooo many time this has to be a scam of thiers

.they are saying oh cant get the discount because your phone bill was late...I proved I wasnt.... they then state oh well you cant get the discount because you dont have DirecTV service at that address..I had to find the account number for them!...then today they tell me oh its because you ported over a cricket number...what?! I have been with att since 2006 and I have never felt more scammed by a company in my life this is an absolute disgrace we pay over 1000 a month in phone tv and internet services in my family and to be treated so less than is disgusting and dont ask to speak to a supervisor you get treated even worse I've been hung up on and transferred everywhere I'm tired of the company and I want my account fixed

The final thing they told you was finally the right reason. To get the “free” phone required opening a new line. Sorry to say but porting a number from Cricket did not qualify as a new line because Cricket is ATT. You are not and will not get any free phone credits because you did not meet the requirements of the promotion. The store associate should have known that porting a line from Cricket didn’t qualify but that does not change anything.

I also think the name on the Direct TV account had to be the same as on the wireless account. 

 

You can try to file a complaint with the BBB. That will get you in touch with someone from the office of the president. They might be willing to bend the rules for you.

If someone tells you that you need to put someone else's name/address on the account (unless they are actually involved with the account), that is the biggest red flag I can imagine. Walk out immediately.

I have to agree with @TROLLEDYOUSO on this one.  You can’t just figure you have relatives with TV service, and figure the computer will make the connection.   It won’t.  

The TV service had to be the same billing address.  

Adding anew line jeans from a competeing carrier, which Cricket is not and is specifically excluded.

Easy to say but when you walk into a buisness...and the employee in charge of dealing with your account and answering your questions what am I supposed to think ..he told me wrong information I would not have transferred otherwise....and to answer your questions.. I met all the requirements for the promotion...so no that's not why...it came down to the cricket number that the employee told me would work with no issues I would of been fine with the new number.. this is why this is a scam

Which is why you will read many times here that you should read promotions yourself.  Cricket is specifically mentioned as excluded as a new line.

hello everyone its fine I will be paying off both of the phones and have already found new service providers with some amazing discounts so we will be leaving att... but if an att worker reads this which I'm sure already has wink* wink*...train your employees!! you just missed out on 1300 a month in services! who does that? LOL over a 750 dollar phone?? that's bad business... btw you can tell some of yall commenting work for att because anyone else would see the wrongdoing of the company but you all don't for some reason almost like you can't agree and just keep finding a different excuse it's sad really... and really weird.. but anyway! two more months and I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lol i suggest no one switch to att unless its prepaid otherwise its probably a scam
