Hi, ! We see you're interested in using your AT&T wireless service while in Nigeria. We can definitely shed some light on how this will affect your bill!

Our ACEs responses in your other post are correct. In addition to their reply, if you have a compatible device, SIM, and eligible unlimited plan then yes you can use the service in Nigeria.

These AT&T Unlimited plans includes roaming in Canada and Mexico at no additional cost. So no roaming charges for voice, text, and data plan usage while in Mexico and Canada.

  • AT&T Unlimited Starter, Extra, and Elite
  • Unlimited &More Premium, & More (retired)
  • Unlimited Choice and Unlimited Plus (retired)
  • Unlimited Enhanced Choice and Plus (retired)

We offer select international packages that'll help lower international charges. You can find more information about these packages and can see offer details by accessing the International section on our website.

AT&T International Day Pass (IDP) (recommended): If you talk, send a text or use data in any of the included countries, you’ll be charged $10 per 24 hours and $5 for each Add a line on the same account used the same day unless you remove the International Day Pass. Charge cap: A max. of 10 daily fees per line, per monthly bill cycle.

Data: Data will be drawn from your domestic plan allowance with the same data and speed restrictions.

Unlimited talk: For phones only. Includes calls received in IDP countries and made from IDP countries to the U.S. and to other IDP countries. If your domestic plan does not include unlimited talk, minutes of use will be drawn from your domestic voice plan allowance and domestic overage charges may apply.

Unlimited text: For phones only. Applies only to AT&T Short Messaging Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and not to other messaging services or applications like iMessage.

AT&T International Calling (only applies to talk): Get unlimited calling from the U.S. to 85+ countries and discounted rates when calling 140+ countries for only $15 a month. You can find eligible countries and rates by selecting "See eligible countries and rates" which will be in small writing of the AT&T International Calling feature section. Pay-per-use rates which are $3.00 applies when you don't add the package.

Calls made from the U.S., Mexico, or Canada to other parts of the world are charged International Long Distance (ILD) rates consistent with your monthly rate plan, or consistent with the International Long Distance calling package that you have purchased. A customer in the U.S. receiving a call from an international number has airtime deducted from their current rate plan based on Airtime Billing Priority.

Nigeria is an included country in both packages but keep in mind coverage is not available in all areas. You'll want to use our Wireless Coverage Map to determine the coverage provided in your area.

To answer your questions specifically:

  • We recommend adding the AT&T International Day Pass to lower international charges.
  • If your brother purchases the IDP then you will not be charged for talk, text, and data usage as you're on an unlimited plan but there will be a monthly charge for the IDP. If you don't add the IDP then as our ACE mentioned, you'll be charged for Talk ($3 a minute), Data ($2.05 per MB), and Text (50¢ each).

We hope we were able to provide you with a better understanding of how international use with AT&T services are charged and applied. Please return and let us know if you're still a bit confused.

Thank you for visiting the AT&T Community!

Please do not create new threads on the same topic.

As you were told yesterday, it will cost your brother at least an additional $130 bill cycle if he added a roaming plan for your phone.

If he did not add a roaming plan it could cost him thousands of $$$$$ to allow you to use your phone in Nigeria. Please email your brother and discuss with him!

@Oimoniogha

AT&T cannot help you with service outside the USA.  I suggest you check your bill.
