Account information

Someone gave me AT&T service as a gift and I no longer speak with that person. I was told it was prepaid but now I have phone service but no data and it says my account is closed and I have a bill of over 200$ but I havent even had it a month yet. How do access my account info without being the account holder? I want to know who is being Billed, me or the person who gave me the sim card

You can’t get information if your not the account holder. Prepaid doesn’t have a bill so no clue where the 200 fits in.

Are ATT actually billing you for anything? If you are not the account holder, how would they know who you are?

Definitely not prepaid. Thread moved to regular wireless.

Interesting.   I can't imagine a third party would want themselves build for service, and potentially ruin their credit by not paying. Which means they would have put it in your name. It's not much of a gift if it no longer works and you're getting a bill. Prepaid would have been a good gift. Postpaid may be a curse if your SS# is on it

I would suggest you contact AT&T directly and give them your phone number. Maybe they can help.

@TexasBrit I suspect what happened is the other party already had at&t and added a second line to his plan, put the sim card in my phone but then changed his billing address to my address. This way, I will be the one charged but the password to login to the account is saved to his Google account. This person is already known to me to be less than upstanding when it comes to honesty or methods by which they obtain income. Unfortunately I can't confirm this until I get an actual bill as there is no way to view account information or login with just  your device or the  sim card

Hello @Kennneth1701, we certainly understand your concerns with needing to access an account that you claim was gifted to you and we want to help.

As previously questioned before, please let us know if you're inquiring about an AT&T prepaid or postpaid account, so that we're able to determine how to further help. Be advised, if you suspect that a line was added to another AT&T account that you're not authorized under, you'll need to visit our nearest AT&T retail location for further help.

They'll be able to further assist with accessing the account that you're inquiring about and providing more information, once you're able to be verified.

We hope this information helps and thanks for contacting the AT&T Community.

@Kennneth1701

You cannot be held responsible for a bill unless it is your social security number on the account. Just changing the mailing address to your address does not mean that the bill is in your name.

Did you provide this person with your social security number? Did you accept a transfer of billing responsibility when you're line and phone was added to the account?
