500$ deposit refund

I have asked online, instore and customer servise.

We still need to pay extra 9 months to get our deposit back after 2 years useage.

The problem is I just finished my study here and I will flying back to my country on this Sept.

According to At&t website I can cancel my account and still get my deposit back.

The policy says: if you cancel your account, your security deposit is first applied to any account balance. After all final charges have posted to your account, any remaining credit balance will be refunded.

However, shouldn't we be able to ask our deposit back whenever we want as long as we can provide good credit score/SSN?

Does anyone know what work the best for my current situationThere must be a better way to get my deposit back instead of paying extra 9 months after I leave.

Hello @Qiaoling.Yan,

We understand the cautionary measures you are taking with the refund checks you received. We are glad to have an answer for you!

In order to receive the security deposit refund, there are some requirements if you still have an active account with AT&T:

  • You must complete 12 months of active service with AT&T.
  • During the 12 months, your account cannot be suspended for non-payment.
  • Your account must be current and paid in full.

If you cancel your account, your security deposit is first applied to any account balance. After all final charges have posted to your account, any remaining credit balance will be refunded.

Canceled accounts with an eligible credit balance from a security deposit are processed approximately 60 days after the account was canceled. Please allow an extra 5-7 business days for your refund check to arrive. Additional information can be found online through the AT&T website by clicking on the article Security deposit refund.

If these requirements have been met, you will indeed receive the refund in a form of a check from AT&T and are able to deposit them into your account.

Hope this helps!

Make sure they have an address to mail the check.

They said they only mail it to the account holder. I am not the holder and I am leaving soon.

For my current situation, I will need to cancle my att account, but I have to wait until everyone else is paid without charge my deposit fee since I am in a family plan. Is it possible to have my deposit back in 1 month?

Hi there @Qiaoling.Yan!

Thanks for following up! Indeed, it’s important that everyone pays their charges and the account balance is brought current, otherwise your initial deposit credit will be used to pay outstanding charges before it is refunded.

Canceled account deposit refunds take about 60 days to process, then an additional 5-7 business days to mail, so unfortunately it is not possible for it to be received within a month’s time.

I hope that helps, thanks for reaching out!
