No calls on Apple Watch SE standalone

There’s something wrong with my Apple Watch SE because when people call me it doesn’t go through and it goes to voicemail but when I try to call it doesn’t go through either and it says that the call failed I have an AT&T plan on it and it’s enabled I also have Wi-Fi calling and it still doesn’t work. What can I do?

The Apple watch SE can be set up as a standalone device, but it has to be (1) set up with an iPhone using (2) apples family setup which will allow the watch to operate as a phone.

And of course you have to have (3) cellular service and (4) a line of service on AT&T postpaid for the watch to function as a phone.

All check, check, check and check on All 4?

Yes. I have all these things, and if I DO get a call to work, it cuts off and says call failed.

Hi there JessicaLumsden!

We'd like to look into why your Apple Watch isn't connecting to NumberSync or Cellular data.

With some details, we can further assist you:

  • Have you followed all steps for setting up NumberSync for your Apple watch
  • What type of iPhone do you have?
  • Are you on a AT&T Wireless, Business, FirstNET account?
  • Are you receiving any other error messages while trying to connect to NumberSync, Cellular data?
  • What current plan are you on?
  • Are both devices software up to date?
  • What do you see if the upper left corner of the screen on your watch? (red underscores, green dots, rectangular green box, Wi-Fi FAN)

Verify that Cellular Service is set up. From your iPhone, access the watch app>select the watch>select Cellular and AT&T should display in white letters under the words Cellular service.

Verify that the Apple watch is connected to your number. Make sure both devices are paired and that your iPhone is logged into iCloud. Go to your settings on your iPhone and go to the apple ID screen and at the bottom of the page select the watch. Your number should display in the device information section.

Verify that the EID, IMEI, eSIM of the watch matches on the watch app on your device.  You can view these by going to Settings>General>About.

Also, use our troubleshooting tool for NumberSync. This can discover service/technical concerns and can result in quick fixes. Just select your device and follow guided steps for NumberSync under the fix an issue tab.

Please confirm these steps and let us know what happens.

🤦🏼‍♀️

@ATTHelp  Ashley, please read the original post again carefully. And maybe even read my reply. This user is trying to get the Apple watch to work as a standalone device. Numbersync is not used when using an Apple Watch as a standalone.

The user would be setting up the phone with apples family setup.

In fact if numbersync is engaged it messes up the entire function of the watch as a stand alone, and numbersync would have to be removed and the watch factory reset and start all over with family setup because number sync does not allow the watch to work as a standalone device but instead only as a connected device to the phone.

It happens to my daughter’s stand-alone Apple Watch too. Her watch has an individual number and I paid $10/month for the service. However, it often lose signal with no particular reason. Yes. It will work after the restart. However, I can’t restart the watch almost everyday as it happens to frequently.

And it happens to my mom’s phone as well.  Once a week, I have to ask my mom to restart her phone otherwise I can’t reach her over the phone.
Jessica, does the problem still persist?
