When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?

As soon as Tegna and AT&T can agree on what AT&T should pay Tegna for something that Tegna is giving away for free.

Sadly, it's not considered an "essential service". The corporations that own local stations, like Tegna owns WFAA, too often hold cable/satellite providers hostage when they demand more money to carry their stations. Local channels are not considered essential services. As such TV providers have no obligation to carry them or for the local affiliate owners (like Tegna) to give them to the TV providers.

Regardless of how each side "spins" it, the reality is that their carriage agreement came up. While negotiating for a new agreement, Tegna pulled their channel which is their right as they own it. Normal negotiations as much as we customers do not like it. Each side is trying to get the best deal. Keep in mind a better deal for the local affiliate means higher bills for us. After all DirecTV's costs go up then so do our bills. So regardless of opinion on who is in the right, a deal in Tegna's favor would not be in the customer's favor.

But as much as you don't like it, local signals are not an essential public service so there is no requirement to provide them. TV is still considered entertainment, even though it can have useful information.

Tegna pulled the channel away to leverage customers against the TV provider. That is their right as much as we customer do not like it. Just normal negotiation tactics. Channel will be back whenever Tegna allows it.

As channels are subject to change, a clause all TV providers must have since they don't own the channel, there is no required discount. However, some people have gotten a one-time courtesy credit when they logged into their account.

I hope you are voicing your feelings to Tegna that is keeping the channel(s) off the air.

......in the meantime, you have a couple of options to watch NBC content:

1.  Use an OTA antenna

2.  See if locast is available in your market.

3.  Stream content via the networks app.  In this case, PeacockTV.

Tegna pulled the plug around the 1st.  No one knows when it will be resolved.

In the meantime, you have a couple of options:

1.  OTA antenna

2.  See if locast is available in your market to stream local channels

3.  Use the networks app to stream content.  In this case that would be ABC Go.

EVERY TV provider (AT&T/Spectrum/Dish) has to negotiate with station owners (TEGNA, ViaCom/Universal/etc.) so moving to another provider will not solve the problem. 

It might buy you a little time but it does not guarantee that you will never experience another outage.

It isn't working things out with CBS - AT&T's relationship with CBS is fine (and my CBS station shows without problems).  The problem is with the owner of your CBS affiliate station - Tegna (which own's many stations for different networks across the country).  AT&T's carriage agreement with Tegna is up for renewal, and Tegna demanded a very large increase in fees.  As a negotiating "ploy", Tegna cut AT&T off from all their stations - all networks, nationwide - so that the end users (like you) would blame AT&T and not Tegna, and demand they fix it.  Certainly AT&T can work things out with Tegna - just give Tegna all the money they are demanding.  But if the do that, expect your bill to go up, perhaps substantially (especially with all the other stations see that they can jack up rates and win).  AT&T is apparently trying to negotiate a reasonable fee increase, and Tegna is apparently not willing, so right now there is an impasse.

ATT I’m sure as big as you are you can figure out a solution. Or give us back some $$$.  I’ve left messages with Tegna. Someone needs to blink. But my contract is with YOU.  SO LETS SEE SOME MOVEMENT. 

This is a customer to customer forum. Only other customers will see your rant, not Directv. You know it takes two sides to end the dispute. Sure, ATT could just pay what Tegna is demanding but aren’t you tired of costs continuing to go up?

Spectrum just went thru the same carriage fee issues last year when Tribune pulled stations during the negotiations. So you may be ok for a couple of years but certainly not immune. Unfortunately this is business as usual when two greedy corporations negotiate. One wants to be paid and exorbitant amount of money and the other one doesn't want to pay to protect their bottom line. Neither one really cares about the consumer and quite often the consumer is just used as a negotiating tool.

Using an antenna for OTA whenever possible is the only way to avoid paying the continually escalating costs. Even channels like YouTube will eventually get in similar negotiation hassles with their providers and pass that cost onto you.

The problem with using an antenna (yep, got one hooked up) or locast (yep, got it installed), is that I can't find a way to record anything with the tools available.  Has anyone solved that problem?  The AT&T TV DVR function is pretty lame already (misses the beginning or end of some programs, is bad at series recording management, and has NO manual recording function that I can find.)

But the truth is I watch almost nothing live except sports; all our favorite TV shows get recorded so we can watch them at our leisure.  So with the Tegna thing we are just missing programs now. 

I've heard I can ask for a credit or a partial refund, but what I want, and what I was sold when I signed up, was service on par with YouTube TV, which this clearly is not.

Yes, you were sold a service but it states in your TOS that specific channels are not guaranteed and subject to change at any time. You can record OTA broadcasts but not with the AT&T equipment.

WWL will return when it's owner, Tegna, agrees to let DirecTV provide it again. These corporations want more and more $$$ to carry their "free" over-the-air channels, and the situation has gotten out of hand. DTV nor any other TV provider have any control over a channels programming in fact the content providers send the same feed to all of them.  Those shopping channels pay the TV providers to carry them so reduces what you would be paying.

Negotiations between Tegna and AT&T still ongoing with no resolution date publicly announced, yet.

Locast, if it is available in your area, or use an antenna for OTA reception are your options. I suppose you could subscribe to CBS AA but I don't know if it carries your local broadcast station.

In addition, they're probably not going to announce a date. Your local affiliate may announce something via their social media, but that's up to them.

When a deal is reached, it only takes a few minutes for Tegna to resuming sending out the signal.
