When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?

When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?  It's disrupting my service in watching WFSS (channel 8 - ABC) in my area.  Customers should not have to deal with the petty problems between Uverse and TEGNA.  Work it out or lose a long time subscriber.

I fail to understand why AT&T is so upset about TEGNA asking for more money.  You money grabbing, greedy (Edited per community guidelines) have have and the corner on that market that to your loyal and unappreciated customers for years, since the merger with the Bell System and you kept AT&T name, but took on the Bell horrendous customer service and even worse Bell attitude.  I'm sure with all the money you've robbed from us with your bogus hidden fees you would wouldn't notice it was being paid out.  On the other hand, you would in pass the cost to us with and probably tack on additional charges because that is the true AT&T way of doing business. I mean after all we are paying for a package that includes CBS that we are not getting and you are still charging us full price.

I understand that programming can change.  We have U-verse basic. Channels will mysteriously appear and disappear. For example, I was thrilled that one time we suddenly got the Military History channel. Then it just as mysteriously disappeared a few weeks later.

But now it's our local NBC affiliate in St louis, KSDK.  It's suddenly gone and we see nothing but a message that says come to this website and forum.  My question is this:  Why not take the History channel off instead?  It is very long on reality shows and extremely short on anything to do with actual history.

The NBC St. Louis affiliate, channel 5, is a local channel on which we watch local news and programming.  How can U-verse allow this to be removed from their lineup, especially on the Basic contract, when local stations and home shopping channels are pretty much all that's offered?  In addition, we just finished a U-verse promotion so we are now paying more as of last month.

So give us something else like a sports or movie channel as a consolation.

Or maybe just let us keep the lower price.

The channel was removed by its owner, Tegna, Inc., who owns the local affiliate stations. Tegna pulled their network feed, not AT&T, to force AT&T to pay what Tegna is asking for in a new contract negotiation. AT&T felt that what they were asking was way too high so Tegna pulled the feed in hopes that AT&T would give in. You, the consumer is being used by Tegna to get what they want.

The new seasons for local prime time shows are just starting and imagine our surprise when all of a sudden with no warning we no longer get NBC.  I am not very happy since I am paying a lot of money to have access to all local channels not just what you want to supply.  If you do not get NBC back on the line up very soon I will probably cancel my service and change to another provider.

ALL providers have to negotiate with ALL station owners to carry their product.  The only way to make sure you get your LOCAL stations with no interruptions is to use an antenna.

With an antenna there is no middle man and it's free.

OVER THE AIR:

Station-> to your antenna-> to your TV

USING A TV PROVIDER (CABLE OR SATELLITE):

Station-> sent to provider-> to the cable wires or satellite-> to your receiver or box-> to your TV.

See the difference?

You have two other options:  If you stream content, see if locast is offered in your market OR use the networks app (ie. PeacockTV) to stream content.

I agree, local channels should never be taken away but it’s not Directv taking them away, it’s the owner of those local stations, Tegna. Changing to a different provider won’t insulate you from that, it happens to every tv provider.

The question you should ask the network owners (in this case,  Tegna) is why do they charge pay tv providers to carry them when they're FREE over the air

There is no obligation for those "main" networks to provide their channels. It is still entertainment, not a utility.

The local affiliate owner (Tegna) is trying to get a better deal. So they have pulled their channels away (as is their right) from the TV provider. Once they are happy with a deal, they will return their channels.

You are not paying to have access to "all" local channels. Packages include access in general to locals, not any specific local guaranteed. Plus local sub-channels would not be available. You only get what is in your Designated Market Area (DMA) and only if the local allows it. So again you are paying for what they can supply, not all of them.

Changing to another provider will not save you. All of them go through these negotiations and it is becoming more common for local affiliates to do this. Even Nexstar did this to DirecTV a while back and is now doing it to another provider.

Regular antenna, Locast, the local's streaming app, or watching one of your many other actual pay TV channels are your options.

Once again it is the consumer that is caught up in corporate greed.  No matter what side is involved in the negotiations, they are both making a lot of money from their subscribers.  With the college football playoffs and the national Championship coming up, numerous popular programming on both NBC and ABC, a pandemic that pretty much keeps us at home as much as possible, the timing of this is so obvious.  We the consumer are simply at the mercy of both parties involved in this and there is no one who really cares about us.

Just in case you haven't been keeping up, CBS is owned by Tegna, Inc. They supply the network feeds to AT&T. Tegna and AT&T are in a carriage fee dispute that is far from being settled. Tegna pulled the network feeds in hopes of forcing AT&T to meet their carriage fee demands. In a sense, Tegna is using you, the customer, as a bargaining chip against AT&T. This is not uncommon and in fact Dish is starting to go thru the same thing with their affiliate owner. You can switch providers but there is no guarantee that the same thing won't happen to whomever you switch to.

Dish has disputes with at least eight different companies. Some of them have been going on since 2019, if not even longer.

AT&T seems to settle most disputes within a month or so.

The owner of the local affiliates (Tegna) has pulled the feed to get a better deal for themselves by leveraging customers. It will be back when they allow it.

Finding another provider would not save you as they all go through these negotiations. Unfortunately the trend in recent years is local affiliate owners pulling the channels, which is their right. Other providers are going through similar negotiations with local affiliates.

So a regular antenna, locast, any streaming the local itself may have, or watching other of your many channels are your backup options. Consider that these are free over the regular airway channels that most of us didn't go to pay TV for.

First, I'm really annoyed that this happens -- your customers have to suffer because you can't find middle ground with a local affiliate.

I'm in the Columbus, Ohio, area and it seems that AT&T and the local CBS affiliate (channel 10) have been in a contract dispute for the last few weeks.

Look. We're in a freakin' global pandemic and the only little bit of joy that can be had is watching sports on the weekend. Today, I was totally unable to watch a decent NFL game on TV because of this stupidity.

WHEN WILL I GET MY CHANNEL BACK??? Also, I want an on-going credit on my monthly bill until this is resolved.

This is a public, customer to customer forum only. It is not an official AT&T Support forum so there is no one here who can help you, and Support does not read or respond to posts here. I believe DirecTV is offering a $20 credit but you need to check with them directly.

If AT&T caves in to the demands of Tegna, which are extremely high carriage fees, then expect your bill to go up considerably to cover the costs of Tegna's demands. Dish is going thru the same thing now with their affiliate owners.

Ask your local station (I assume owned by Tegna) when they will negotiate a compromise with AT&T rather than holding out for their demand for much higher fees.  If AT&T just gives in, expect your subscription fee to go up.

Add me to the list of frustrated customers not getting a TEGNA station.  We customers pay you big money for this service.  Why do you feel you have to get big money from the broadcast services, too??  The bottom line isn't everything.  Service to he customer should count for something.  How about a rebate on my monthly fee for not providing what you promised?

Read your TOS. The service is guaranteed, not specific stations. Complain to Tegna as well. They are the ones who want a huge increase in carriage fees and they are the ones who pulled the network feeds to force AT&T to cave in and they are the ones who are using you, the customer as leverage against AT&T. AT&T is certainly not blameless in this but at least they are trying to keep the costs down because guess what happens when the deal is done and your network feeds are back? You're rates are going to go up to cover the costs of the deal.

It's a breach of contract to charge customers full price when you no longer stream NBC channels.  Are you providing customers with a discount to cover this loss of service?

You have obviously never read your contract/Terms of Service. All TV providers have a clause that states channels/programming/services may change at any time. They don't own the channels so cannot force them to stay. You get access to locals in your package, not any given local guaranteed.

Sorry but there is no breach of contract here.

Yep. I actually read TOS's and all those disclaimers so I know and understand exactly what I'm getting and the limitations thereof.

I can certainly understand the frustration and anger that the customer's are going thru but if one took the time to read the TOS, then at least there's no surprise when something like this happens. Tegna really has the upper hand this time with lock downs, social distancing, etc so I would expect AT&T to cave in in another week or so. However, once the rates go up in a few months, there will be a whole bunch of complaints about rates and threats to go elsewhere. People just don't get it.
