WGN and other terminated channels owned by Nexstar

Discovered last night that Uverse took away WGN. I am disgusted. Can't even find a link to view the current announcement of channel changes. Cost keeps going up, yet number of channels provided keeps decreasing. I give up.

Either AT&T and DirecTV cave to Nexstar and have to increase our bills accordingly or Nexstar agrees to a reasonable rate that minimizes any cost increase (preferably no increase or even lower, but channel owners will not agree to that).

All calling AT&T/DirecTV would do is essentially say you are voting for higher bills to get the channel(s) back sooner. I say complain to Nexstar, watch the free broadcast on traditional antenna, or just watch something else in the meantime.

From my perspective the ongoing action is a STRIKE by Nexstar not a lockout by DirecTv.

DirecTv would continue providing the channel(s) and pay Nexstar at the old rate while continuing negotiations.

Nexstar is withholding the service(s) and is not making any money by doing so from these accounts.

Example … say $3 per month per account with 13 million accounts is $39 million each month Nexstar is losing and the same amount DirecTv is not spending for those channel(s).

A decade or more ATT and Hallmark was in a dispute that lasted 5 years before Hallmark returned to Uverse.

ATT Uverse continued to add new accounts during that 5 year period with more accounts on the books than before Hallmark pulled out.

So here’s the run down, maybe someone has been through this. I’m ready to cry with how frustrated I am.

tried to add a line on my ATT account, says I have unpaid debt.

called ATT they said it was with DirectTV.

transferred me to DirectTV and they said since it was in 2019 they can’t see it. Couldn’t even give me the agency it was sent to.

finally after speaking to 10 different people I got the number to ERC.

I thought OMG it’s over I’ll pay and be done… WRONG

ERC says it has been recalled as of July 11th 2023. They cannot do anything.
Called DirectTV again, they said, it’s in collections.

tried again to place an order, same debt.

I cannot reach anyone at Direct TV who knows what they’re talking about. ATT can’t bypass the debt to add a line… I am legit at a stand still. Every time ATT transfers me to DTV collections, it’s ATT collections and they say “we’re wireless I can’t do anything for you”

WHAT DO I DO NOW!!!??

If it’s been sent to collections, have you received any correspondence from the collector?

When checking your credit, does it show as unpaid bill?

Once sent to collections need to work with the collection agency.

edit…

from summer 2015 to summer 2021 ATT owned DirecTv.

The debt could be related to any TV service product including ATT Streaming, DirecTv Now, DirecTv Streaming, DirecTv satellite, Uverse IPTV… all products sold to DirectTv summer 2021

Did you have DirecTV?

Did you let the debt go unpaid?

Have you checked your credit report to confirm who now owns the debt?

It is admirable that you now want to pay your debt but shouldn't you have dealt with this awhile back?

Shoutout to everyone who can remember their childhood phone number but can't remember the password they created yesterday.  You are my people.  😊

I ended up giving up. When I called the debt collection agency they said DirectTV took it back.

When calling DIRECT TV they say "ERC has it" so it's just back and forth.

It's not on my credit report, I've checked. There's nothing there.

So I gave up after 6 hours.

What is the status? I realize this is probably a cost issue (money is almost always at the root of these issues), but the consumer will end up paying for it anyway, so let’s just get our tv viewing back to normal.

Unless you know someone who is on the negotiating team for Nexstar and AT&T, there's no telling when, and if, it will get resolved. Keep in mind that if it does get resolved and Nexstar restores the network feed(s), the customers will pay the price one way or another.

Nexstar is of course being greedy and of course, it is always a money issue.  They seem to do this with all the TV providers they work with. The reason for the delay and the reason why they are still negotiating is that they(AT&T) are trying to keep the increase minimal say a $5 increase compared to say a $20 increase per account.  I for one would rather lose the station(s) for a while than pay an outrageous increase to the cost of my TV service which is already too expensive in my opinion in the first place.  But if what I am hearing is true then they are trying to make this a long-term agreement so that they will not have to do this again for a while.

Very disappointed in AT&T Uverse for taking away 1/2 the stations that I watch.

Considering switching cable providers if the stations don't come back soon.

Why am I paying for something I cannot even watch?

The contract between AT&T and Nexstar Media Group has expired. The two entities have not been able to come into an agreement, yet.  No one on this forum knows how long this will take or when it will be settled. Most of us are subscribers just like you.

If you switch television providers, you most likely, at some time, have he same situation. It happens to all television providers and media groups.

U-Verse didn't take anything away. Why would they?

In addition, U-Verse isn't cable.

@cantrobus1  Apparently this is the first time you've been here. As mentioned, Nexstar Media Group, who owns the Fox and CBS affiliate stations in your service area, pulled their network feeds over a contract dispute with U-Verse. This is a common tactic with the station owners to get more carriage fee money out of the provider. Both parties are in extended contract negotiations but neither side has wanted to budge, yet. This happens to all providers from time to time. Carriage agreement contracts usually last for about 5 years (I think) so it doesn't happen that often but when it does, this is the result. The owners try to force the provider to meet their demands and one of the things they do is pull their network feeds and then blame the provider in hopes that the customers will blame them too and threaten to cancel.

You can get a one-time credit of $10.00 for your missing channels.  You can go to www.directv.com/tvpromise  to apply for the credit and yes this is for

U-Versre customers as well as Directv.

Carriage agreement contracts usually last for about 5 years

Carriage agreements usually last 3 years.  This last one between DIRECTV and Nexstar seems to have been for 4 years.

Is ATT offering discounts because of lost channels during this on-going dispute with Nexstar? I am missing at least 3 channels, maybe more.

You can go to www.directv.com/tvpromise to get your one-time credit of $10.00 and yes this is for U-Verse and Directv customers. Also, this is for people who are missing any channels due to the Nexstar dispute.  No matter how many channels you are missing you can only get the $10.00 credit one-time.

I just spent 40 minutes on a chat with "Josh" who swore that because the provider cancelled the contract that AT&T was not providing a credit to its customers.  Even when I encouraged him to go to tvpromise.com and enter my zip code and see the notification. Of course, the connection was then "dropped".  The link does not work for me to instantly gain the credit.  I feel this is common with AT&T as the same thing happened with the last outage.  The customer is then forced to spend hours on the phone for a credit that if AT&T was sincere would automatically be credited.  When I tried to change my service online I get the "call us for the best service" message.  Every few months there is a reason for me to recall that I need to dedicate an afternoon to becoming an EX- AT&T customer.

We have been locked out of NBC stations here in SouthWest Michigan for several weeks due to apparent contract negotiations.  We are very frustrated and about ready to drop AT&T and stream.  We have had no communication from AT&T on the status of negotiations and therefore, have no idea if NBC will ever be active again.  Can someone at AT&T enlighten us here in SW Michigan before you lose us all?

They are closed door negotiations and all providers go through negotiations same as AT&T

Will DirecTv bring back WGN?   I've been a D-TV customer for over 20 years!  The cost has become ridiculous.  I can't have FOX Sports unless I upgrade my channel package at a cost of over $35 month ON TOP of having to pay $13.99 a month just for my local sports.  So I lost my sports now I lose my WGN.   All you do is give me reasons to end my service.   When will you do something positive for customers?????
