WGN and other terminated channels owned by Nexstar

Discovered last night that Uverse took away WGN. I am disgusted. Can't even find a link to view the current announcement of channel changes. Cost keeps going up, yet number of channels provided keeps decreasing. I give up.

Dish prices are half what I’m paying monthly.  If I’m going to be angry anyway, I might as well save money.

I feel certain that AT&T has been pocketing significant profits for years -just google AT&T stock.  That’s the reason I suggested they take a hit (loss) this year.  That’s the beginning of a negotiation - offer a one time payment, then extend the contract at the current rate for 10 years, or something along those lines.   You can’t sustain as a network provider if you have no share in any networks.  In my opinion, they put themselves over a barrel, but they should never drag their customers into their self imposed dilemma.

@Sassy22  The same holds true for Nexstar, who is the one who pulled the network feed for their affiliate stations in hopes that they could force AT&T to meet their carriage demands, which are extremely high. This is commons for all providers and happens to all of them sooner or later.

Dish prices might be half...because the company plans on getting people out of contracts. They're essentially paying for those early termination fees. What's the real rate tho? Don't forget equipment fees, DVR fees, taxes, etc.

If DirecTV could extend for 10 years, they would. Nexstar would laugh in their face.

So, AT&T, the 3rd largest telecommunications company, has NO leverage to negotiate?  Is that what you’re telling me?

Let me give you all an example:  There’s an independent brand grocery store that I frequent.  Back when we had the egg shortage eggs at this store were upwards of $5 a dozen.  At the same time, both Kroger and Walmart had eggs at about $2.

The independent store didn’t have enough capital to lock in prices like the giants.  In this case they didn’t just say - we don’t have Eggs.  They still had eggs for their customers - at a higher price.

Flip side - Walmart and Kroger locked in prices in EARLY negotiations (futures).  They are giants in the industry like AT&T, but AT&T is NOT representing their customers to keep prices down like a giant.

Their business position in not sustainable.

AT&T certainly has the power to negotiate, and they are. But, what Nexstar is asking AT&T to pay is unreasonable, at least to AT&T and the shareholders, so they are in negotiations to come to an agreement on what AT&T will pay Nexstar to carry the affiliate stations they own in the different markets. Prices are going up regardless but if AT&T capitulates to what Nexstar is asking, that price increase is going to be passed on to the customer. If AT&T can keep the retrans cost down, your cost won't go up as high. Nexstar is huge, and owns something like 190 affiliate stations across the country (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc etc) in various markets. They are just being greedy. Business as usual.

AT&T had a 4 year agreement with Nexstar, so the prices held for four years.  Now Nexstar wants more money for their eggs and won't sell their eggs to DIRECTV at the old prices, thus no eggs.  Dish doesn't have eggs either and hasn't for 6 months.  Your local cable company may not have eggs in a month for the same reason.

One problem I see here is that Nexstar needs sales growth to make investors happy.  These contracts are for $0.xx/subscriber.  DIRECTV (like Dish and most non-streaming video providers) has lost millions of subscribers in those 4 years, such that the price per sub for Nexstar to get more money from DIRECTV (which they need for sales growth) is a huge jump and DIRECTV is balking.  On the other hand, Nexstar is getting ZERO from DIRECTV right now, and that doesn't make investors happy, either.

When, if ever, are you going to get KOLR 10 and FOX back.  I picked my plan with these stations and haven't had them now for months.  Seems to me a compromise should have been obtained by now unless there's something political going on that should be brought to light.

Nothing political.  It's called "contract negotiations".

KOLR is owned by Nexstar.  AT&T and Nexstar are in a broadcast dispute (since July 2?).  No one knows when it will get settled.

You can go to tvpromise.com  to request a one time credit of $10.

Very few stalemates, outside of Dish Network, last more than month or two.

Up until 2020 or so, U-Verse hasn't had many.

Honestly, starting a new thread won't actually help things. Look around before you post. It's basic forum etiquette.

Where on the ATT page do you request the one time $10 refund for the dispute between ATT and NexStar for not been able to view channels.

the tvpromise.com/att just redirects you back to att page but doesnt tell you anything about how to request refund!

It will ask “Which service” and zip code then you should see a link to sign into your att account.  Once there, it should confirm that you will get the $10 credit.

I've done this and can not find anywhere on my account that acknowledges a $10 credit.  No search within their website will show anything either.  Why should I even have to initiate this - shouldn't AT&T do this automatically for its customers?

We're here to look into this bill credit for you, @FrozenOut!

Since this is an account specific concern, let's go ahead and move this conversation into a direct message. This way we can research your account to see if we can locate the credit. Be on the lookout for a chat notification in the upper right-hand portion of the page, next to the bell icon. Once you're there, we can continue this over the phone or in chat if you'd prefer.

I don't really think it is a PERSONAL concern since any UVerse or Direct customer should be receiving this credit if they are affected by the Nexstar blackout in their community.  Just tell us where to find the credit after one goes to the tvpromise.com/att link and you've answered the questions and it then has you log into your account and then "crickets"

Once again, don’t drag your customers into your dogfight.  Negotiate!
