Pioneer Elite, PS3, input

I'm hoping you can help me with my challenge. (I never had a problem like this)

After 15 years I switched from DirecTV to ATT Uverse. I have something occur I have not experienced. I cannot! all of a sudden, simply switch inputs to access the PS3; something is wrong...

I am using HDMI cables on my Pioneer Elite TV.

and never had a problem with DirecTV by switching inputs between devices - a simple push of a button was all it took.

1. I have the TV set on input 5 for regular TV.
2. I have the PS3 set on input 4 (I tried different inputs, but same results).
3. When I touch input 4 the TV turns off.
4. Before I turn the TV back on I have to toggle the ATT and Pioneer remote to get something to react.

I Sought help various ways, but cannot find a definitive answer to this challenge.

@runtothedaylight   Have you tried to turn off the Uverse unit b4 changing to the PS3?  See if that works. Smiley Surprised

Do I understand what you are saying? The problem is when switching to Ps3, not u-verse.

And, the TV is turning off, not just no video?

There is a power control on HDMI called CEC to push an on/off from one device to other automatically. Although, I would think selecting the PS3 input would turn it on, not turn the TV off.

Post your TV model so we can read the manual.

PS3 only has HDMI connection? Is that right.

If you have aproblem with U-verse HDMI - It is more sensitive - switch to component connection.

I do not understand #5. Can you be more specific?

I haven't thought about turning off the att box first, switching inputs on the tv then turning the tv back on.. Worth a try, I guess:)

YES, THE TV IS TURNING OFF... very frustrating...

CEC???? I'm not well versed in the acronyms nor am I versed in how HDMI communicates to machinery - I apologize...

I've read some blogs and it seems there is tendency for HDMI to no communicate effectively if ther is a question of copywriter protection... I'm not sure if this is something that is common or I'm just misunderstanding that statement. All I know is when I click on the remote the alternate input for PS3 the TV turns off. It makes a distinctive click and the screen goes dark. From there it can take 5-10 minutes for the TV to turn back to the original input that views TV. Sometimes it will switch to the input for ps3, but it is not NORMAL, but very UNNORMAL on how this happens.

THIS IS WHAT MY WIFE SAYS, BUT HOW DO I DO THIS IF THE PS3 is HDMI???

#5???

Thanks!!!

I think that the problem is not a u-verse problem & it is not an HDMI problem.

That is the reason I wanted to verify that the TV is turning off. The TV does not turn of with an HDMI problem. It goes dark.

Perhapse you say you need to toggle u-verse  because you are using the u-verse remote.

I think the first plan is to use the TV remote & get the PS3 working. You can even leave the u-verse box disconnected.

Check section 5.2 of the manual about connecting to the HDMI inputs. Should the PS3 be set as a PC or video? Try both.

Was the PS3 on when switching? try both on & off. I am thinking if you switch & the TV sees the PS3 is off it turns off. You may be able to prevent this when you have the correct setting for video/PC. My TV does shut off when my computer goes to sleep, but it does time out first.

The important thing is to work it with just the TV & PS3. If you cannot get it to work, contact Pioneer.

If it works with just the TV & PS3, but not u-verse, I am going to go with an IR problem. The two things you can try are -

Try a different code for the PIoneer.

Cover the the IR receiver on the TV with nwewsprint or tissue paper.

If you cannot get it to work with a u-verse remote, the only alternative is to get a diffeent remote.

Please keep in touch as you work throiugh this. I would really like to know what it turns out to be.
