PBS is not listed in my available On Demand TV networks. Why not?

PBS is not listed in my available On Demand (under Free Shows) TV networks.  Neither is the Discovery Channel.  Why not?

ABC, NBC, and several others are there, but not PBS. Not Discovery.  Comcast had them available as free on Demand options.

I know one can record a show, but if you don't know it was on until after it has been shown, you are out of luck.

Makes me think I should go back to Comcast.

Google for your specific shows.

Here is info on connecting your TV & computer - https://sewelldirect.com/articles/PCtoTV.aspx

Don't know what a "PCtoTV information/links" are but if it's something to let you connect your tv to the internet (through your PC?) and if GPB has a website you can access to stream it's stuff (assuming it streams its stuff at all) then yes I would assume you can do it.

If it's a public broadcasting channel doesn't it carry more or less the same programming (Nova, Frontline, etc.) as any other public broadcasting channel? Is there not one or more of these accessible in your uverse channel lineup you can use instead?  Does GPB have unique stuff only available from there?

@rodriguez48 Well, Comcrap and other cable systems are the kings of On Demand having 30 years of experience and do whatever they can to stop ATT.  ATT Uverse has gone ahead leaps and bounds in the On Demand arena in the 6-7 years it has been in existence.

More than 6 years ago when I got installed there was hardly any On Demand. 😉

What is interesting is that a friend of mine in a neighboring city who also
has U-Verse has PBS available as an on Demand network.
Customer support was no help in explaining that.

If AT&T is going to charge prices similar to Comcast for like services,
they need to up the ante and become more competitive.

I changed because Comcast broadcasts kept pixelating on Friday and Saturday
nights and Internet Service speed kept going up and down. I have had the
same problem with AT&T, except, not only do movies On Demand pixelate on
weekends, they completely shut down. Restarting five minutes later
generally resolves the issue, but it is annoying when it is family movie
night.

PBS member stations are independently owned and operated.

As is the case of the networks providing OD content, it is up to the individual stations whether or not they want to make programming available and to whom.

So KQED-Channel 9 (broadcast from San Francisco), the local PBS station, is
ok with AT&T U-Verse On Demand in Fremont, California, but not in
Pleasanton, CA, less than 20 miles away? That is not logical. The other
strange thing is that my friend's U-Verse package is very basic, no Premium
channels like Starz or HBO, whereas I have a much more robust package, i.e.
more $$. So it would make more sense if she couldn't see PBS On Demand, and
I could. Interesting.

Do the networks have to pay AT&T or Comcast to make their programming
available On Demand? Could that be the underlying issue?

aviewer,

I just switched from directv to Uverse and lost my favorite channel, Georgia Public Broadcasting. Can I use the PCtoTV information/links to connect to GPB? Thanks!

I asked this question over four years ago. I’ve been with Comcast for the past 3 years when ATT increased my monthly bill to $198/mo. ATT On Demand carried many of the TV Networks, but PBS, which has Nova, Masterpiece Theatre, etc, wasn’t one of the choices.

Comcast has PBS, and lots of other TV networks available as On Demand. It’s the only station I watch, and often I’m too busy to view it as live TV and I have no time to worry about trying to record a program.
