NHL Network on U-verse

Just signed up for U-verse, U300 package.  Where can I get an answer from AT&T administration in regards to as why the NHL Network is only available on U-verse in their highest (most expensive) Package U450.  It is one of the four major sports like MLB Network, NBA TV and NFL Network. It at least should be made available in the optional Sports Package (after all it is a sport oriented theme channel). I don't believe that there are any other sports channels in U450 that a subscriber cannot purchase in other U-verse packages. In addition, I can't recall of any other programming service that has the NHL Network only available in their highest (most expensive package). Come on AT&T......What the "PUCK" is going on with not including the NHL Network with the other sports theme channels?

All part of the carriage agreement when NHL was brought back (yes there was a time Uverse did not have NHL).

Have no idea when the agreement ends, but would not expect to reopen a contract for discussion about tier placement until the current contract expires.

How can one go about finding as to when the NHL Network contract is up for renewal? If U-verse at one time didn't even carry the NHL Network then there's a good chance that that could happen once again. Very strange that AT&T's other two programming services (DirecTV and Directv Now) don't offer the NHL Network ONLY in their highest (most expensive) package. Also, as a new U-verse U300 subscriber I also discovered that I am not receiving any of the Stingray Music channels. Guess I am discovering some of the shortcomings of U-verse very quickly. As a positive however, I am receiving locals from two different markets, is that common with U-verse?

DTV as a stand alone service till July 2015 had their own contract deals. Such as renewing the NFL Sunday Ticket for 8 years (till 2022-2023 season) at an average cost of $1.5 billion per year paid to the NFL. Thus while may be included in the first year of new customer promotions, the customer is charged extra each year for the whole season unless cancel before season starts.

The NHL was gone, I suspect ATT purchase of DTV opened channels for discussion reached in 2016. Number of years, unsure but would expect a mile year deal of four years or longer. If this is true then 2020 would be renew year.

Carriage agreement is for a dollar value of everyone who can receive regardless if watched or not. In my following example I will use my estimate of Uverse IPTV accounts in 2016.

Estimate total Uverse IPTV 5 million accounts,

15% Ufamily, or 750,000 accounts

40% U200, or 2 million accounts

30% U300, or 1.5 million accounts

15% U450, or 750,000 accounts.

Let's say NHL wants $3 per account per month. Would you as ATT rather pay $2.2 million each month for a sport channel placed on U450 with lower viewers than the other others. OR pay $6.6 million per month for similar number of viewers with programming on both U300 ($4.4 million) and U450 ($2.2 million).

Now if NHL would be willing to take $1 per account, easier to have on both U300 and U450 for a total monthly outlay of $2.2 million.

Thus each side has to place a value on the product and come to acceptable terms.

If thing this is not the case look into what Disney receivers for ESPN or what TWC was wanting for the exclusive rights to the LA Dodgers...

https://www.google.com/amp/www.adweek.com/tv-video/chairman-fcc-annoyed-time-warner-cable-159198/amp/

TWC has demanded that SportsNet LA be carried on the basic service tier at rates of $4-$5 per subscriber. Other MVPDs in the network's footprint reportedly have refused to agree to these terms, claiming that the price is too high and objecting to terms that could require all subscribers to pay for access to the network."

So what this comes down to, is that if one wants the NHL Network (a sports channel) available ONLY in a predominately premium movie package from U-verse it is going to cost me an additional $82.00 a month for me. (My current U300 price $60.00 as compared to what's listed on my account to upgrade to U450 $142) Being really not a movie fan, I think I'll pass on those terms, something is not right here. This is no way to sell your product. I am certain that there are others out there who would like to have the NHL Network, but in no way are willing to have to pay an extra $82.00 a month for it.

Uverse needs to get Center Ice! I had NHL network on my Enhanced DirecTV package for the last several years. Why is it so difficult to subscribe to an out-f-market hockey game package...AT&T OWNS DIRECTV! Figure it out or I will look elsewhere.

I'd suggest a streaming stick like a Firestick or Roku with the NHL app. Not only would it be the same exact content, but you can also log in to any internet browser and watch games.
