Loss of channels

AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the  anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future!  I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

I would like to know what we can expect in regard to WKRN channel 2.  That is a  basic channel and we pay way too much to not be able to receive ABC.  I am sure that I can change to another service, but would prefer not to.  Please tell me when this is going to be resolved.

Hello @pinkfairy0225,

We understand that you're having issues with missing channel. Don't worry we can help with that.

What state do you currently live in? so we can see what happen with that channel.

What displays when you try to tune to channel?

Hi @Mobile36604,

I can help you with that. I apologize; this is not the experience we want you to have as an AT&T customer.

AT&T has been unable to reach an agreement with Nexstar. This means certain local stations in parts of the country are currently unavailable. Visit https://soc.att.com/2TkYCrx to learn more.

I can assure you I will work to get this situation resolved.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for contact us on AT&T Community Forums!

I love DirectTV, you guys do an amazing job, you have a far better DVR, I love the NFL Sunday Ticket, I am truly happy with DirectTV, that said every night as a family my wife, my kids, and I sit down to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy together, silly or not this is one of our core family activities, I am giving you 2 weeks to get this straightened out with Nexstar otherwise I will have to cancel my service with you. Good luck.

Here we go again ☹

Realize that NextStar, the corporation that owns the stations pulled your channel, not DirecTV. This is an all too common negotiating tactic used by these corporations to extort more money from TV service providers.  None are immune, so even switching providers won't help.

You will need to use an off-air antenna until they allow DirecTV to provide them again. If you can receive the station with an off-air antenna, this is a good time to request DirecTV’s Local Channel Connector (if you have HR44/HR54). It’s free. And some folks are getting a credit on their account, too. Call DirecTV …. 1 800 531 5000

You'll also want to contact the corporation that owns these stations. Request that they allow DirecTV to continue carrying them while negotiations continue. And ask them why providers like Dish, DirecTV and Comcast must pay them anything when they get to use our public airwaves for FREE?!?  After all, these service providers increase their overall viewership and advertising revenue.  They're shooting themselves in the foot!

The FCC and Congress could easily fix this. Just allow service providers to deliver an out-of-area station when local stations get greedy. But I fear that the broadcast TV lobby is too powerful to ever let that happen.

We didn't find any info about "When are we getting Our TV channels back. I pay a lot of money and I m not getting NBC or CBS. If we are not getting them back soon, we need to be told that. I am looking for other options. I will not wait much longer.". Try using a different search term.  I have been a loyal customer for several years & even got others to sign up with AT&T.  I hate to switch, but I feel I may have no choice.  Please don’t ask me to watch it on another antenna or my phone.

So my question is if we are going to lose NBC and other channels thanks to this issue with the provider, will they lower are rates? Offer other channels to replace them? Or don't they want happy customers?

When is NEXSTAR / NBC coming back in service?!?!? Absolutely unacceptable and no-one bother to warn us it was happening!!

We rely on NBC for our shows and more importantly local news especially during hurricane season here in SC.

Please tell me it will be restored asap?

Otherwise we have no choice to seek another provider.

No I don't need to email anyone about the loss of major channels. Thats why I pay ATT  $251.71 a month to take care of matters like this. ATT makes the the big bucks to be the negotiator for these deals not me and no one else that subscribe to your services. If you can't provide the service I need then I'll find the company that can. I've been with ATT for more than 10 yrs. For the most part loved the service you provided, but when you tell me I need to contact Nexstar to complain. This is where our relationship ends.

Yeah, good luck with that. All TV service providers go through this BS all too often. Put the blame where it belongs .... On greedy station owners. I'm glad that AT&T/DirecTV are trying to hold down costs.
