I guess the reason AT&T does this is for another incentive to upgrade, otherwise it seems like a poor marketing practice & if they think people wont wonder why they decided to do that then I dont understand.

That is the MILLION DOLLAR question, especially since we never paid for it before.

Because the lawyers from both Hallmark and AT&T said so and everyone was happy.

Yeah, that's probably about why. We users will probably never know why.

U-Family is a collection of channels from across the "dial" which have been deemed appropriate for all ages. This package is offered because the FCC forced them to and really, for no other reason.

I was excited to get the Hallmark channels, but my excitement turned to disappointment when I realized that our San Diego channels are set to Eastern Time.  The prime time shows that I want to watch from 8PM to 10PM are on from 5PM to 7PM.  AT&T please set our channels to Pacific Standard Time.

That is what the DVR is for. I record almost all shows. Set up your routine recordings & they will be there whenever you are ready. Even if you are tardy. You will never miss a show because you cannot get there on time or something comes up.

I think the other poster has a point. The guide should be set to local time. If something is set to air at 2 PM ET, it should say 2 PM if you're in the east coast and 11 AM if you're in the west coast.

@baseballisback I believe the guide shows the correct times. If not that would be serious. I cannot imagine how it would do that just for one/two channels.

I believe, the problem is pac is three time zones away, so the shows aimed at prime time in the east do air in the aftrnoon in cali.

This is why the broadcast channels do not continue their network schedule to Cali. This is why many cable channels have E/W versions.

It is only obvious to us when they do it with two channels. I do not know how many channels do it with one because I do not see the guide. Different feeds - same channel number.

I interpreted that the OP wanted to view prime time programming during prime time. Now that I think about it, for u-verse the Eastern schedule for a few channels opens up more recording time so as not to hit the recording limit during prime time.

One persons bug is anothers feature.

Ahh yeah... the schedule *is* accurate, *but* since it's an east coast channel, say ESPN, then a show which is at 9 AM ET would be at 6 AM PT.

Obviously, if it's something like TNT or TBS in Ohio, the show would be at 9 PM ET and midnight. On the west coast, say LA, I assume it would be at 6 PM PT and 9 PM PT.

Hello, I'm trying to make sense as to why both the Hallmark channels 365 & 366 are offered on Ufamily but only 365 is offered on U200.  Thanks

It could be a cost problem.  Remember, AT&T has to pay whoever owns the Hallmark channels a certain amount for each household capable of receiving each channel, and the two channels are charged separately.  Making Hallmark Movie Channel available to everybody on U200 would have cost more   I wouldn't be surprised if this is some sort of compromise reached in order to get the Hallmark Channel back on U-Verse.

Then why not give it to the U200 and not the UFamily.

We'll never know the *exact* details, but typically, they work something like this:

Provider pays owner a fee per subscriber. Subscriber dictates fees, tier and probably even channel location. I believe ESPN gets paid more for a "premium" location of 1602 than they would 1621 or 1679, but I could be entirely mistaken on that.

Crown Media, owners of Hallmark wished for Hallmark to be available to X percentage/number of subscribers. Likewise, they wished Hallmark M&M to be available to Y percentage/number of subscribers. I'm guessing U-300/U-Family met those requirements.

Speaking of U-Family, it isn't really a "tier" in the true sense. What happened here was that the FCC required providers to assemble a group of family-friendly channels and market them as a separate package. In my area, Time Warner had a group of channels like Toon Disney, Disney XD, Discovery Kids and a few others in the 850-862 (or there abouts) range. These channels were actually copied from elsewhere in the guide.

Actually if I remember right, sometime between my install 8/2008 and 9/2010 when we lost the Hallmark channels, they had put HMC from u200 into the u300 tier and above.

This was the period when they were moving channels around, many into the HD premium tier and to u300 and above, they also brought some down into u200.  It kinda angered us u200 users, but shortly after this they started adding more HD channels for u200 and above. Smiley Surprised

I was very sad when Hallmark was dropped, but now it seems that in order to see any of the shows I used to watch I need to upgrade my Uverse account to include many more channels I don't want (and don't want to pay for!). Now the Hallmark Channel is nothing but another set of old reruns.
