Can I stream live coverage of 2018 Olympics on my desktop computer?

The NBC website says I can stream the Olympics live on line, but when I click verify and chose U verse as my provider I get caught in a loop and can't get out of it.  Just go back and forth between screen where I click verify and screen where I click on U verse.

Recently AT&T took the online guide web site away from us older folks who don't have smart phones.  This guide web page seems to be necessary to verify we are u verse customers.  Is this why I cannot view live streaming from NBC?

For me the problem was cookies.   I got this from NBC.

“If you're using any third party plug-in such as AdBlock, you'll need to disable it. It may also be that you need to clear your browser cache and cookies, and ensure 3rd party cookies are enabled for the site to work properly. Also, please check to see if your computer is running the most recent Adobe.”

I, of course, disabled AdBlock and reloaded.  I had also enabled third party cookies but this did not help at the time I started this discussion.  I had tried many combinations of settings on Chrome browser and none worked.

The main difference this time is I clicked on the cookie icon on the left end of the browser address box.  Then I clicked on “show cookies and other site data”.  Then I clicked on the Blocked tab, highlighted each cookie and clicked Allow.  This got it going.

Previously, when I clicked on the cookie icon and the box with the word “Manage” in it, the global settings popped up and I enabled third party cookies there.  That did not work or maybe I needed to restart the browser and didn’t; I don’t know.  Choosing "Always allow http://stream.nbcolympics.com to set cookies" also did not work for me.  Enabling each cookie finally worked.

Since then I have identified the specific cookies that need to be allowed to make sign in possible.  I think the problem was probably adobe cookies.  I used the snipping tool to get a picture of the cookies that need to be allowed.

To skeeterintexas,

That is exactly where I cannot live stream Olympics on my desktop computer.  I click verify, next page I chose U verse, then back to verify and same thing over and over.  The previous guide page says not available and it is necessary to verify.

How did you verify, chose U verse and start streaming on your desktop computer.

Yes...I'm on my laptop and because I have AT&T internet (previously Uverse), all I had to do was click on the Uverse logo to verify and it worked great.

You might try clearing your cookies to see if that helps.

I also have AT&T U verse internet.  I am using Windows 7 sp 1 64 bit.  My browser is Chrome Version 64.0.3282.140 (Official Build) (64-bit).  Cookies are enabled.  Ad Block is off.  Here are screen shots of what I get.

I start at Verify.JPG, and then go to Uverse.JPG, then I get  In-home validation.JPG and then it goes back to Verify.JPG and starts all over again.  If I use the back arrow on Chrome, I see this page - AT&T cannot process.JPG.  It seems to slip in between In-home validation and the return to Verify but does not show unless I click the back arrow and there it is.

Verify.JPGUverse.JPGIn-home validation.JPGAT&T cannot process.JPG

Thank you for your help.  You say you have AT&T internet.  I have U verse TV, Internet and Phone.  Is U verse internet different from AT&T internet?  Can you think of any other reason I cannot stream live from NBC on my desk top computer?

BTW the "We're sorry message" never goes away.  I have been trying for hours and AT&T cannot process the request for validation.

Uverse Internet is now called to AT&T Internet.  Tomato...tomahto.

I'm running Windows 10 and using Firefox as my browser.  I was also able to stream using Microsoft Edge.  I don't use Chrome so I can't address that.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty techno limited.  Perhaps someone way smarter that me can chime in.  @_xyzzy_  Do you have any thoughts?

Look at your post here:  https://forums.att.com/t5/Watching-U-verse-TV/STREAM-UVERSE-ON-COMPUTER/td-p/5369883

I don't think I can stream U verse TV on my desktop or my lap top.  I need to download a Uverse app to a "device" I don't have.  Maybe for the same reason I cannot stream NBC live on either of my computers.  I'm not sure AT&T internet and U verse internet are the same thing.

You should be able to watch the Olympics on your laptop by using the NBCOlympics WEBSITE...which is independent from the Uverse app.  Now why you are having problems accessing that WEBSITE, I have no idea.  I'm able to.  Like literally, I can watch the games streaming live....on my laptop.

Yes the Uverse app is used on 'devices' like tablets and smartphones but the NBCOlympics WEBSITE is just that.  A WEBSITE that you should be able to access on a computer or laptop.

The Uverse App is compatible with the following:

  • iPhone/iPad/iTouch (iOS 9.3 and above)
  • Apple Watch
  • Android smartphones and tablets (OS 4.1 and above)
  • Android Wearables (Android Wear OS)
  • Amazon Fire TV devices

A website can be accessed using a web browser and a computer or laptop.  The NBCOlympics is a website with live streaming of the games.

AGAIN:  Uverse internet is now called AT&T Internet...it's the same thing just a new name!

The restriction on streaming ATT content from a laptop that @skeeterintexas referenced post refers to has nothing to do with streaming from non-att websites.  However there are a class of websites that restrict streaming to users subscribed to specific tv providers.  NBC is one of them.  So you have to go through their verification step.  The verification posts a list of providers.  In our case you would select U-verse and that should let you "in".  Once in you should never have to verify again unless you sign out using whatever form the site provides for specifying the sign out.  That's the way it's supposed to work.

I believe that the sign-in status is recorded in a cookie (or cookies).  I am signed in to NBC using my preferred browser, Firefox.  However if I try to access NBC with my Chrome, which I rarely use and never used for NBC, it wanted me to sign in even though Firefox was already signed in.  That's because there is no existing cookie in my Chrome for NBC.  Each browser has it's own data distinct from all other browsers.  That data includes the browsers entire "world" - its bookmarks/favorites, passwords, extensions/addons, preferences, and so on.  In Firefox that data is referred to as its "profile".  I'll just use that word here to refer to any browser's data set.

It's because each browser's profile is independent from one another is why I always suggest trying a different browser for comparison.  It's a simple test and starting another new profile means there's no possibility of corrupted data and particularly cache and cookies.  It also avoids trying to clear all your cookies in your preferred browser if you don't have to because there may be cookies you want to keep (e.g., login passwords of sites).  I'll ignore that you can also selectively delete cookies instead of all of them.  Note, you can clear the cache anytime.

So @mpw101 have you tried using another browser as a comparison?  And just to verify your account and password can you even log into start.att.net?

Same issue here. All browsers end up with "We're sorry   null" error message during verification, or just redirect me back to the verification screen. This is on Chrome, Firefox, IE 11, IE Edge on Windows 10. All cookies and cache cleared. When I click on "Contact your provider", it redirects me to uversonline.att.net, a site that is not active anymore. I can watch 30 minutes of free replays, but not the full replays.

Also, NBCOlympics recognizes my ATT user name, I can log in to att.net, and everything else works at att.

Seems to me that someone screwed up either at NBCOlympics or at ATT.

skeeterintexas and _xyzzy_

Well I am really upset.  Sent a long explanation and this site said it was successfully posted and it was not.  I will try one more time, and then I give up.  I had to edit 3 times because pictures had links imbedded or something, anyway they did not display and I clicked remove links and then they did and the message that the edit was successful came up and I saw the post in this discussion and now it is gone.

I discovered I could stream NBC Sports live using my Roku attached to my TV.  I had not even thought about that.  When I selected NBC Sports channel from Roku Home a code came up with instructions to go to http://nbcsports.com/activate on my computer.

I went to this site using Chrome and this screen came up:

register.JPG

I already had the code so,

Step 2 was select device.  There were several streaming devices and Windows 10 (no Windows 7). I selected Roku.

Step 3 was select Provider.  U verse was not listed.  I selected AT&T.

Step 4 was entering activation code that I got on my TV screen from Roku.

The same Welcome to AT&T In Home validation screen came up as before:In-home validation.JPG

This time when I clicked Continue, it worked.  Back at the TV the NBC Sports channel appeared.  Across the top of the screen were NBCOLYMPICS, NBC Sports and Golf.  NBCOLYMPICS was already selected and programming choices appeared.  In the upper right hand corner there was two logos: U verse and NBCOLYMPICS. (go figure)

During my research I found this website: http://www.nbcsports.com/live-faq#compat.  Scroll down to Supported Connected Devices and you can see the devices and only Windows 10 no Windows 7.

I want to thank you for your help.  I did not try another browser because I think I need Windows 10.  Also my goal was to watch live programming; it did not have to be on a computer.  It all really worked out for the better.

I hope this posts, I was frustrated to tears when the other effort just disappeared.

What do the icons on the notification page mean.  I think I may have tried to reply by clicking on one preceded by @ instead of the icon with one thought bubble inside another.  Is that why my first posted reply to xyzzy disappeared?

I thought about Windows 7 being your issue but I didn't bring it up.  If your computer is running 7, whatchagonnado????

Side note: If you're used to 'regular' Windows, 10 will drive you crazy.  I've got it on my laptop and there are things about it that still make me nuts (I'm a senior too).

I'm glad that you found a solution to your issue.

@User1011  What OS are you using?

@mpw101 discovered that running Windows 7 was the problem:
