HBOMAX service error

I have AT&T internet 1000 and have the HBOMAX app on my Sony Bravia 4k tv. I am streaming between 210 and 340 mbps according to the spped apps I  have on the tv. Problem is, no matter what I'm watching on HBOMAX, I get the "oops something went wrong, please restart hbomax" service error about midway through shows and movies, and it is random from that point. The app and tv software are up to date and I cleared caches, restarted my router, tv, everything that was available. Still have the problem. This does not happen on my xbox one console. Both tv and console are connected to the BGW210 router via ethernet cable. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi @Gene395, we are happy to help.

If you are getting the "oops! Something Went Wrong" error  or the Service Error when accessing HBO MAX.

Try the fixes for HBO Max:

  • Un-install and re-install your HBO Max app.
  • Make sure you have a constant internet connection.
  • Check HBO Max for updates

Please let us know it this helps.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums!

We have the exact same problem. Click on HBO Max, it asks which user, then the screen with all the movies and TV options populate including movie trailers running but when we click on any movie, it immediately displays the “oops something went wrong; restart your HBO max app.” There is no way to “restart“ we just get in and get out of it-there is an uninstall option in the settings, which states that it will revert to factory settings and all data will be lost and even when we tried that it didn’t work because it didn’t go back to the factory setting and all of our data reappeared immediately. This is something that AT&T needs to do on its end because HBO max is working on our computer and on our Roku it’s only on the AT&T TV that the HBO max is not operating as far as watching a movie or any show. Again, there is no error message that we don’t have an account; we are even able to choose which user. It is a streaming problem that HBO and AT&T must work out. We haven’t been able to watch anything on HBO max for several days on our main family TV.  No amount of rebooting the AT&T TV device, unplugging and replugging the router / modem have made a difference. We spoke to several agents who are absolutely clueless on how to address this. One of them is sending us a new TV device but information that flows through it comes from somewhere else so this might be a big waste of time, also. We are not the only people who have this problem, so it’s incumbent upon HBO and AT&T to work together to fix this. Don’t advertise that you include HBO max and then not give it to us through your main portal, AT&T TV.

I figured it out.
It’s an issue with the HBO User Profile.

try creating a new user and see if that works, it did for me :-)

Yesterday I added my name as a user but it didn’t change anything. When you say change the user profile you mean get rid of the original one and then re-enter it?

try deleting all existing user profiles and create a brand new one with a different name. That’s what worked for me.

Thank you. It only allows us to remove non-primary users. It doesn’t  give us the option to remove the primary user. But I appreciate your input.

One more note:  One cannot delete preloaded apps (i.e., HBO Max app, in this case) from the AT&T TV device (box). Therefore, there is no way to uninstall and reinstall the HBO Max app unlike within a Roku environment. .So attempting to uninstall the HBO Max app from the AT&T TV device results in an "uninstall unsuccessful" error message.

The oops something went wrong; restart the HBO max app Service error message is bogus because there is no way to “restart“ even with a forced stop in the settings and then opening it back up - it does zero to fix the problem.
