(HBO) Max subscription - HDR? Dolby Atmos?

I no longer seem to get Dolby Atmos sound via the new MAX.  Is there something I need to tweak?

This also makes me think that HDR could also be "missing".

Can you clarify please?

Hello Elcastillodecampbell, we're here to help you with your sound inquiry with Max.

AT&T customers will continue to have access to 4K and 2 consecutive streams in their grandfathered plans until a date yet to be determined. Eligible AT&T customers are not currently in the Max AD-Free or Max Ultimate Ad-Free plan they are in a grandfathered version.

Customers will still have access to their original HBO Max plan feature for a minimum of six months following the launch of Max.

Let us know if this helps. Reach back out to us if you have any other questions.

This is not true. Support keeps posting this in public, but in PM they clearly say "The Ad-free plan that you have doesn't come with 4K channels"

ok, thanks for the info.  I hope that somehow this gets worked out so that I can still make use of this perk and perhaps pay additional to upgrade to the better stream,  Its a nice perk to have from AT&T right now, and I enjoy the programming.

Ultimately though, I will want 4K/HDR/Atmos content, and I won't be content with a basic offering.  At that point this becomes a 'perk' that is of no value to me.  I would be willing to 'kick in' additional cost to have the better stream.

I hope this won't force me into walking away from this and re-subscribing just to make it work out for my situation, I have to say that right now it feels like this might be the case.

I feel the same way. Other providers such as TMobile offer complementary Netflix Basic with the ability to pay extra for the 4K level. This seems like a significant oversight.
