5.1 Audio Issue

Why do some new content play in full 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround like Godzilla vs Kong but other newer content like Tom and Jerry don’t? All the newer movies are recorded in Dolby Digital or better. Amazon and Netflix work fine.

Let's get your surround sound working, @Backspin2006!

Please check your settings to confirm that your audio output it set for digital dolby.

Let us know if this helps!

Yes it is set properly, and stated before all other streaming services work fine.

Yes one example is Tom and Jerry, no different sound profile than Godzilla vs. Kong but Godzilla sounds fine. Tom and Jerry sounds like it’s in Dolby Prologic but shows Dolby Digital 5.1

Hey @Backspin2006.

  • How are you accessing HBO Max and is the audio going straight to your TV?
  • This could be related to a broadcast problem.
  • What happens when trying to change the audio setting on playback is it playing in 5.1 are does it the option to select 5.1?
  • Please check if there are options to change audio setting could be playing in default for certain programs that offer different audio options

Please let us know what happens and how you are accessing HBO Max so we can have this looked into.

Playing through Xbox One X. Not near my system right now but if that is the case is there a way to have HBOMax select 5.1 as default.

@Backspin2006

There's no manual configuration for audio with HBO Max. Content that can be streamed in Dolby Digital is identified with a “5.1” symbol on the right side of the screen. If the symbol isn't there, it means that the content can't be streamed in Dolby Digital.

We hope that clears things up for you. Let us know if you have any other questions.

So a new movie like Tom and Jerry isn’t available in DD 5.1?

Hey @Backspin2006!

The Tom and Jerry movie was removed from HBO Max last month.

Are you sure you're not looking at the TV show?

Hey, @Backspin2006!

Unfortunately there's nothing more we can do since the movie was removed from HBO Max.

If you have a similar issue in the future, you may want to reach out to the HBO Max help center.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions!

Thank you for being the best part of AT&T!
