Watching DVR Playlist Remotely

Hi,

Wondering whether it is possible to watch recorded shows on our DirectTV DVR while away from home, but connected to a WiFi network.  Ideally we would like to watch on a laptop, but could watch on a tablet if necessary.

I've done some research and believe the answer is "no" but wanted to post the question.  Also, is there a third party solution that would allow the required functionality.  For example a Slingbox or something else?

Note: We have a a central Genie receiver (Genie 2) connected to the dish, which is wirelessly connected to 3 mini-Genies, rather than having receivers at each TV.  Not sure if this matters when using a third party solution.

Thanks.

Hey @diver_dan, The answer to your question is yes. The content outside your home could be limited due to all networks don't allow live streaming. Some content you would have to download to your mobile device to view outside the home like your saved recordings for example. Learn more about the DirecTv Everywhere app. Is your mobile device registered?

Please let us know if that helps answer your question.

We're here to help, @diver_dan.

Only mobile devices are able to stream DVR content outside of the home. This is because your mobile device is registered to your receiver, while a laptop or computer is not. Your computer will need to be on the same network as your receiver to be able to play recorded content but you can stream live shows from anywhere, with any device using the DirecTV app.

Please let us know if this helps!

DTV dropped support for streamlining when outside of your home network on March 4th 2019,  there are posts that a slingbox will control and stream the content.

Thanks to you both for responses.  To clarify, if I am away from home, I can use a mobile device (phone or tablet) and the DirectTV app to stream my DVR playlist or live shows.

But won't my content be limited while away from home?  It seems only certain channels and recorded content appear on my mobile device when away from home.  Is this the case and why is this so?
