DIRECTV Set-Top Box Guide Redesign

  1. Channel logos will be displayed next to each channel name in the Guide.
  2. Guide will now display “seven” rows instead of the previous six rows.
  3. The guide will have a new “Recording Progress Indicator” icon to indicate the progress of a title that is currently being recorded.
  4. A new time-ticker will show the greying-out (time lapse between start time and remaining time) of every title.
  5. Users can still Fast-forward +12 hours and Rewind in the Guide. However, the Rewind icon -12 hours is displayed, just in a different place. It’s at the right hand side of the time bar, illustrated in the attached screen below.
  6. When a title is highlighted, the summary of the title is displayed at the top. This summary now includes the Genre and a more elaborate description.
  7. When the user presses the 0 key the Guide Options screen will be displayed.
  8. When the user scrolls left to the Channel Name and selects the Channel List View, the following screen will be displayed. The Channel List View screen now includes detailed information for each day for up-to 14 days.

We have collected feedback from customers and will be making various improvements to the new user interface in several software enhancements beginning this summer.  Here are some of the key improvements we’re making:

 

  • Improved overall legibility/readability of the new UI (improvements includes items such as,  font size and color / contrast)
  • Improvements to the playback bar and channel info sections
  • Faster performance / responsiveness
  • Various Enhancements to Playlist and Recording management 

 

Your feedback is important.  We will continue to make improvements to the new user interface as customer feedback is received.

those logos take alot of space.

how about allowing them to be turned off to get extra guide info

move the channel numbers to the left.

 

 

tons of wasted space in that picture

Is there a general manuel for the new upgraded direct tv  screen. The screen is hard to read, very faint and not that intuitive. Since the automatic software upgrade  things seem to move much slower. What gives?

The new menu is way to small and slow. is there any way to change the menu? the lag time is very bad when using any buttons. i have a brand new genie 2 system and a 65" tv,and still have trouble with the menu.

Hate hate hate the new design.  So difficult to read that I have to get up and go to TV to read it.  I talked with customer service and there is no fix.  I cannot continue be a customer if I have to get up every time to read the guide.

Absolutely true! Guide is now horrible. Impossible to read and way too dark. It is a disaster!

I have a 65" 4K TV and I cannot read the guide when I'm sitting less than 10 feet from it. At first I thought it was my eyes, but apparently this is not the case. Many people are complaining about the new guide...horrible!!

My problem is that whoever designed the user interface for the recordings folder has not been shot yet.  It is the height of stupidity because the interface hides rather than reveal the contents. Each recording has a giant card and you have to note the small note in the top right telling you that there are multiple recordings. 

It is also not obvious and hard to get to any item in the folder. 

Please change that ASAP because it angers me every time I have to use that terrible user interface.

Absolutely the worst decision ever! My entire family hates the changes to the guide. It's hard to read, not only is it small but it's blurry as well. It resembles Netflix as far as the search now. I guess I'll have to look at other providers so I don't have to get up and walk to the TV just to read what's on.

The software engineers need to add a font enlarger to the next upgrade.  I see a lot of people do not like the new interface due to small font size.  DIRECTV/ATT  pay attention to this!  This should be an easy fix!  I am surprised that they didn't add it to the Accessibility Settings( this shouldn't be just for the hearing impaired, it should also be able to change your font size and color!)

Agree!  Worst update ever!  Makes 38 yr old feel 58.  Directv should allow the user to choose between classic view or updated view.

I have a 65" tv and I can't read the info or much else. After the "Redesign" I was so confused that I was watching the latest recordings of my shows because I couldn't see the previous recording. Stupid that the list defaults to the latest recording and the F'ING screen can't be read!!!!!!!!!!

Woke up turned on the tv and immediately very negative at DIRECTV again. Tv viewing is not supposed to be a frustrating experience. DIRECTV has turned into that. I'm am trying to skim through the Olympics and all I see is a malfunctioning black Lower third of my screen. So frustrating. Please remove the malfunctioning black out areas and increase the size of the bar.
