What You Need to Know

This modern refresh to the user experience improves the visual design for all screens in the receiver UI.

  1. The redesign includes Menus, Playlist, Guide, Info Banner, VOD Enhancements and other items to evolve the user experience.
  2. Receivers that will get the New UI:
    • H44 + HDD
    • HR44
    • HR54
    • HS17
    • C31 / C41 / C41W-100 / C51 / C61 / C61K / RVU Clients
  3. Receivers may not be downgraded to an older user interface.
  4. HR34 or older will not get the New UI
  5. Households with a mixture of receivers may see a different user interface depending on whether the receiver received the new user interface.

Those guide and menu is sooooo bad. Who comes up with this stuff? I mean seriously.

Grey cloud fast forward bar?

playlist? To-do List? Is there even a to do list now? Sure as heck cant find it.

past recordings of the same show? Can’t find those either.

This is NOT INTUITIVE if that’s what you were going for. Looks like whoever designed this was on a bad acid trip.

CHANGE IT BACK PLEASE.

It took us several hours of searching the internet and trial and error to figure out how in the world to get the playlist to open the folders. Each time we saw the GIANT display for a program and pressed select, the latest recording would start. FINALLY, I got so mad, I held the stupid Select button down and kept pressing it. Only then, did the folder open to display all episodes we had recorded. So, people, PRESS AND HOLD THE SELECT BUTTON TO OPEN PLAYLIST FOLDERS. You can scroll through those and pick the GIANT display of the episode you want to watch, press the Select button down once, and watch. Why didn't the information on the page regarding this new DIRECTV format explain this?

The new format is absolutely horrible. The text is too small and the background contrast is not easy to see either. Very much dislike the black that moves with the time in the bar that displays the current show in Guide. I can hardly read my tv from across the room and I don’t have poor vision. Why did you have to change it.

The only good changes are the station logos and that you can hit ‘-‘ and do a Search. Other than that, absolutely horrid. May have to change back to Dish... I dislike it that much. Obviously I’m not the only one who thinks it’s horrible. And what kind of upper mgmt would okay this?!

I actually really like the new GUI a lot better than the old one. I feel like I might be in the minority. Although, I guess the majority of people who like it or don’t have a problem with it probably aren’t posting here. The only change I’d recommend would be to have the option move where the playback progress banner is displayed, so you can see the bottom of the screen while fast forwarding or rewinding sports.

This new format is total crap! I still don't like it even after using it for a week. I will be canceling my service next billing cycle.

Redefined indeed , because it is the WORST possible implementation of a GUI that could possibly have been done....

From the grey progress bar that darkens 1/3 of the entire screen to small font to never now knowing when something was recorded to making it so easy to delete entire series to not being able to do a series recording on a single channel but instead across the whole lineup (including the channels that are not available to me like the East cost ones...) and then making the recordings appear with no content....

This was the WORST possible rollout to the end user that would have been possible , all these issues easily noticed within an hour of using , it is obvious NO serious Beta testing was done and the developers were obviously NOT DirecTV users either before , during or after this product launch, this is SERIOUSLY flawed.

Oh , and the thing is terribly SLOW even with the most recent hardware , close to unusable.

AND the issue of the audio dropouts on the K61 clients I don't think was ever addressed and that was an issue BEFORE the terrible GUI rollout , so obviously low priority now !

And , your CSR rep's are off-shore from USA , so they have never even USED a DirecTV IRD , so they have NO idea of what the user experience was before this terrible "redefined" GUI , or after .

Simply shameful and I would be embarrassed if I was representing this platform , but what do you all care , you continue to cash our subscriber payment every month and they are always increasing regardless what a mess this is...

So yes , you are redefining something alright , but it's not what you are all thinking !

The new GUI rolled out a few months back.

The new GUI the fonts are way too small. They are incredibly difficult for old folks such as myself to read. The pause feature blacks out nearly the entire lower portion of the screen.

Instead it should be transparent.  The system in its entirety has become really slow and clunky. Sometimes freezing and not allowing access. When one first turns the unit on it can take up to 2 mins before a picture can be accessed.  Nearly every command now takes

several steps to do what was done on one step before. The worst part is the 4K content

has been rendered nearly totally unwatchable.

It was so awesome before this was installed and now it’s fuzzy, dark and doesn’t look 4K at all. So there is a lot of programming im

missing out on.  It’s not my TV it’s a 2017 State of the art Bravia thier flagship. It works fine in 4K with everything but the Directv client.

The Web content from YouTube is perfect and so is the 4K player. But ever since the GUI update I have lost all 4K content. Please fix these problems or when my contract is up I’m gone!  I’ve been with directv since it first went on the Air Years & Years and I’ve never seen such a poor excuse for a GUI. I’m also speaking for 7 others I personally signed up to directv who are also seniors whom are computer illiterate. They too will be switching to cable if you do not fix this horrible new GUI soon.

Font is too small, sitting weft back from a 52"tv I have to lean forward & squint to read. Just had my eyes check up . Impossible to read in bed on a 40" tv at the foot of the bed. Way,way too dark. The old info was so readable & much more informative

Sorry to hear that. It did work for us though. Perhaps we have different remotes or something?

Hate everything about the update.  Will be going to another provider as soon as my contract expires.  Att/direct really screwed it good this time.

New look on guide. HORRIBLE!!

Why did DIRECTV change the look of the guide? Why change something that wasn’t broken? This new format is terrible.

Please go back to the way it was.

This updated version has some serious issues/problems.

-   The menus have been made smaller with smaller text and more data displayed and with non-contrasting foreground and background so that reading the menu screens is extremely difficult for people with even modest vision issues. Even with a 70" TV located 12-15' away it is nearly impossible to read everything. Even after I have adjusted the contrast on my 4K Samsung TV to everything I can.

-  The new "do everything from any screen" idea makes for some very common operations far more complicated and difficult than needed. We have to learn a whole new set of commands for the genie and some of us still have older DVRs in our system to remember how to use, too.

-  The new interface does not display the time the show was recorded.

-  We can't read news headlines, sports scoreboards or financial tickers while fast forwarding through a recorded program due to the Progress Bar dark shaded/ faded and not clear - make it transparent.

-  The bar displayed on fast forward greys out at least 1/3 of the live screen so it becomes extremely difficult to find the point at which one would like to stop and watch, wasting much back up and rewind time.
