Connection from the ONT to the Modem

The AT&T technician used ScotchLoc connectors to connect the "ONT" cable from outside the house to one of the CAT5 cables inside the house which comes out at an RJ45 jack behind the televison. From that wall jack there is a piece of what looks like CAT5 (0r 6) with a red plug on each end that connects to the modem.

Can I replace the ScotchLock splice with a standard RJ45 connector so I can move the modem next to the Q-Box where the other network wiring is located so that I can connect up to the other ethernet ports on the modem to supply my other rooms?

We're here to help with your ONT to modem connection, @blueskivies.

Can you send a picture of the connections so we can better understand your set up.

Thanks for the response, @blueskivies!

For some reason, our spam filter keeps flagging your message, but we did get your picture.

To answer your question, it appears that the technician spliced 2 ethernet cables together to extend the reach from the ONT to the gateway. If that is the data cable that leads from the ONT to the gateway, then a Cat 5 or Cat 6 RJ45 cable should work.

However, it is not recommended to move the equipment inside your home. In the event that you aren't successful in getting your service back up after moving the equipment and a technician dispatch is needed, there will be a charge for the dispatch.

We hope this helps.

I am only wanting to move the gateway to the Q-Box so that I can distribute LAN to additional rooms. The actual ONT would remain outside where it is currently mounted.

Thanks
