Would a back-up battery keep my Gateway up on a PACE 5268A?

Every-time I loose either my power or my AT&T service my DVR does not re-set.  I get a message to manually re-set it.  As one of the two major points of having a DVR in the first place is to record shows when not home, this is a really stupid solution (and one not shared by your competitors!).  After much searching through forums and google, I have come to the conclusion that the issue is my DVR recovers faster than my PACE Gateway 5268AC.  The DVR never tries again on its own, so it waits for a manual restart.  Again, seems like bad engineering not shared by others.

My question is: if I were to add a battery to my Gateway, would it keep it up and eliminate the timing issue?  If so, why doesn't AT&T provide the battery?  I know from my investigations I am certainly not alone with this issue.

Thanks.

The battery backup is mainly intended for VoIP.
