There is a Red Cross in my tv screen and nothing happens. Restarting it doesn’t help

That doesn't seem like a U-Verse error.

Hello. Look at step 3 in this link.
Before you do this, ensure your settop box is directly cabled to the gateway via an Ethernet connection.

Cross, X, there's only 45 degrees difference. ;-)
(I wanted to say Pi/4 radians, but I didn't want to geek out that much)

I knew someone was to comment about that instead of helping. Yes it is an X not a cross.

When we try to picture your error and decide what it means, a cross and an "X" produce different visualizations. @gr8sho knew what you meant, but until I saw his reply, I didn't see the X, so--like @baseballisback --I was wondering if it was your TV or something.

It’s all good. The reason for the suggestion is the settop box has lost its marbles and the procedure will force the box to reload its code. To do that the box needs a functional and reliable path back to Att’s backend servers. To avoid reoccurring issues like this I recommend putting sensitive hardware like this on battery backup. Hope this further explanation is useful.
