Uverse does NOT have a sleep mode/timer or auto shut off.
That would be a feature of your television.

We're here to help answer your U-verse questions, @jgregory99.
The U-verse receiver does not shut off but it has a screen saver that comes on after 8 hours of inactivity and this setting cannot be changed. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Perhaps we're using an incorrect term in the word "sleep."
How about "inactivity"? Is there an inactivity trigger that causes the U-Verse box to shut off automatically after the N number of hours? And can that setting be changed or disabled?

@ATTHelp
What is the business purpose of not allowing customers to disable a setting that would prevent them from having to be inconvenienced with searching for the remote or going to the receiver to turn the device back on while in the middle of watching TV?

IIRC, the timer was needed to get the hardware an energy star rating. The screensaver mode uses less energy.
There’s no chance any changes will be made, so best to move on.
